This really is an exceptional set. Sound is stunningly good.
Already having The Carpetbaggers part of it, and not being keen on the Baby The Rain Must Fall score with its pop flavor, the set for me is about the other four albums. I'm pleased to say I rate all of those four as 10/10 quality.
Walk on the Wild Side, The Caretakers and To Kill a Mockingbird sound like one is present at the actual sessions. Simply wonderful performances and sonics that sound as fresh as can be.
I already had the "Movie and TV Themes" album, but I didn't expect the huge improvement in quality that's obvious with the new one. Outstanding! All trace of hardness in the sound has gone and this now sounds as good (if not better) than any jazz ensemble recording I've heard from this period.
Strongest possible recommendation!
I always enjoy these accurate informative posts of yours very much, especially when it comes to comparing a new edition with a previous one -- like FANTASTIC VOYAGE.

Whoa... that sounds great. I do have some of these on vinyl, and while I love the music, the sound of the vinyls was never convincing. In fact, sometimes -- like Mockingbird -- downright poor.
Sounds (oh, the pun) like this release is going to be an acoustic revelation.

Thank you for the review -- and I am eagerly awaiting my copy. I do have to personally disagree with you about "Baby the Rain Must Fall". I've always found this lp to be an absolute joy (like many of the Mancini pop albums) -- full of great tunes, exuberant performances, and raucous riffs. Love it! I find it fits right in with "Walk on the Wild Side", and other jazzy/pop scores from Mr. Bernstein. The actual film score is, of course, much more lyrical and less pop-star. It is such a tragedy that the original masters for the film have, apparently, been lost/destroyed.

I do agree with all that you have said John, I have always found Baby The Rain Must Fall to be an absolute joy, it's been a firm favourite of mine since I got the LP back in the 60s. The sound on the old Fontana LP was/is exceptionally good, one of my treasures. I'm looking forward so much to receiving the Intrada Bernstein Collection, got my shipping notice yesterday!

You've convinced me to buy it (which had been in and out of my SAE shopping cart). I already had some of the originals, including various CD incarnations of the wondrous "To Kill A Mockingbird" and even, digitally, "Baby The Rain Must Fall," which I long had on LP and later bought the movie on DVD -- granted, not your typical Elmer Bernstein, but always liked the movie. So now I have a couple of SAE boxes on their way to me.
