I don't need people answering "why not". I need info on possible comments from Van Damme or Edelman on their collaboration. If you don't have any, fine.

I apologize if my response seemed glib. That was not my intention. I'm assuming that Edelman was hired for the same reason anybody on a film is hired: Van Damme responded to his work, he was available and affordable, they had a creative meeting where they seemed in sync.
For all I know, Edelman could be Van Damme's brother-in-law or have saved him from a burning building. But unless anybody knows anything to the contrary, the answer to your question is likely pretty mundane.
I hope you don't consider that a smart-ass answer. To me, it seems the logical one. We could ask this question about any scoring assignment (not to mention the hiring of any cinematographer, editor, costume designer, etc.), and only a tiny percentage would have a story behind them beyond that.

Well, for your information, I have read several stories of WHY a certain composer was hired by a certain director. And I just had a glimpse of hop that MAYBE an individual on this board knew anything like that in this case. Or even read an interview! But I guess I was too optimistic, no such thing as inside information here. And in my opinion no information is better than speculations or people trying to be funny.

Edelman was a hot composer at the time at Universal having done Dragon, Kindergarten Cop, Beethoven films and, I believe was wrapping up Dragonheart at the time.. They needed a solid score by one of their "A" composers so he got the gig. It's not always up to the director. The studio usually has a bigger say as to who composes what, especially if it's a film from a newbie (despite Jean Claude's pedigree as an actor).
It was a good choice
