Wow! There's been an article online since June 23rd where these were announced, but no one seems to have noticed anywhere! Or at least, I searched the boards and didn't find anything, but am happy to admit I am wrong if someone does find an existing thread about this. Here is the article, an interview with Craig Safan: http://www.examiner.com/article/celebrating-the-30th-anniversary-of-the-last-starfighter-with-craig-safan Some choice quotes, about the new CDs: On The Last Starfighter:
All told, how much music did you record for the film? CS: I think it was around 70 minutes. You'd have to ask Doug Fake at Intrada Records who is re-mastering the entire score for a Fall release.
On Remo Williams:
The soundtrack to Remo Williams has been issued about three times now. Would you love to see it released again? CS: It's being released this Fall by Intrada. They've gotten the original 48-track masters and we're going to remix and master the score. Should be fun.
(bolding mine) Wow! The Last Starfighter is one of my favorite scores of all time. The 1995 Intrada expanded score release is great, but there is a boot containing more music that I quite enjoy as well. I am SO EXCITED to finally get the complete score in proper, remastered sound quality! This is one of the upcoming film score CDs I am most looking forward to! I have never heard another score by Safan, but the Remo Williams situation seems odd to me. There was: 1. A 19 track promo CD in 2000 running 1:00:35 2. A 30 track Perseverance CD in 2006 running 1:10:33 3. A 26 track Intrada CD in 2011 running 1:08:51 http://www.soundtrackcollector.com/title/28960/Remo+Williams%3A+The+Adventure+Begins Fans of that score, what do you think about this impending 4th version?

Well for The Last Starfighter, the 1995 CD wasn't anywhere close to complete, and the technological improvements in the last 19 (!!) years means the new release will sound a lot better too. Remo Williams is a score I'm not familiar with so I cannot comment, but was the 2011 CD incomplete?

OK, then lets ignore Remo Williams for now and focus on THE LAST STARFIGHTER! A complete presentation of THE LAST STARFIGHTER is finally coming!!!!!! Rejoice, rejoice!!!!!!! I cannot WAIT for this CD!!!!!!!

Didn't think there would be much of a market again for Remo...after nearly 4000 plus copies in the past. There was the Intrada promo with liner noted analog hiss due to elements, then Perseverance's 3000 copy complete soundtrack (albeit with channel balance issues), then Intrada's last release which fixed the channel issue and moved some of the source material to the end of the programme. Don't get me wrong I've bought both past issue's but can there really be much more improvement on the previous two?

A complete remastered Starfighter is very exciting...Remo doesn't do much for me, though I do own the previous version. I hope they get Jeff Bond to do the new Starfighter liner notes! And even though I own the original CD and cherish it, count me in if Intrada decides to reissue Safan's best score...Son of the Morning Star. Yavar

A complete 'The Last Starfighter' would be something, considering how long it has sat while other score have gotten complete re-re releases. I have replaced my Intrada promo with Intrada's 2011 version, which I find pretty much perfect. I'm not sure it needs a complete re-mix & re-master, but I'll leave that for the experts.

So I'll be the only one disappointed if the songs aren't on a re-issue? Safan co-wrote them, so even if you personally don't care for pop music in films, I think there's a damn good reason for including them if possible. (If it's a rights issue, that's a different disappointment.)

For the 30th and almost 30th anniversaries. Very nice. I'll be interested to see what's different with Starfighter from the last one. Really good score. One of the best main titles ever. I'd like it if it had the songs. Now give me my 30th anniversary Buckaroo Banzai! (Please.)

The previous releases were from Craig's personal 1/4" copies. When we uncovered the multi-track sessions, we couldn't pass the opportunity to revisit from these sources that were not previously available.

Nothing more you can do when that's the problem. I'm still going to get this as soon as it comes out of course, because I love the score SO MUCH. Thanks again.
