Well good people, I would like to pose a question:
What was your first Intrada purchase (I'm referring to releases from the label itself, not purchases of other scores from other soundtrack labels from the store itself)?
Leonard Rosenman's "The Lord of the Rings." I was either in middle or high school when I picked it up. Still one of my most-listened-to albums, actually.
WarGames, which I'd wanted to come out forever (that opening title!).
That was also my first Ltd Edition import, my introduction to this world. 6 years on, I don't even want to think about how much money I've spent with all the labels (not to mention OOP stuff on ebay) but I do have a lot of great music.
Mine was the LP release of Poltergeist II. I was 14 years old at the time that I saw the film on the weekend that it was released into theaters. I was happy with the Jerry Goldsmith score. The following weekend, when my next allowance came, I went to Tower Records in NYC to buy the album. After playing the album, I was disappointed that this one cue, which is what I felt was the score’s highlight, was not on the album. It was the cue where the demons return to get the little girl and the family were escaping from their new home—there was this chorus chanting, “God is in his holy temple.” I thought it was just as good as the choral stuff from the The Omen. I felt a little robbed, what with my having spent my allowance on a short portion of the score.
Intrada would more than redeemed itself from that album with more releases of better representations of film scores in the years to come.
Probably POLTERGEIST II on LP. I remember wanting to get I believe their first ever release of RED DAWN on LP but it was like $300.00 and I just couldn't afford it!
Okay, I exaggerate just a tad. It was at Tower for about $30.00 and that was a lot for an LP back then.
I guess it was Poltergeist II . Remember picking it up at Record Bar wayyyyy back when. Also, I think it was the same day they also had John Barry's Frances on LP .
Also somewhere, I have the Intrada Poltergeist II cassette tape. The only cassette they ever released .
The 2-disc Alien set. I think part of me was naively hoping at the time the two tracks from Freud would be included as bonus tracks because I'd grown accustomed to how they play in the film. Despite Goldsmith's understandable indignation over their inclusion, they are an inseparable part of Alien's soundscape for me. Great set, anyway. One of my favorite scores.
