Brian has been hired to score the upcoming romantic comedy "Crazy Rich Asians". The film is directed by Jon M. Chu ("Now You See Me 2"). The movie is based on Kevin Kwan's novel of the same title and follows a Chinese-American economics professor and her boyfriend, who happens to be the heir to a massive fortune.

"Crazy Rich Asians" is currently in post-production and is set to be released in 2018 by Warner Bros.

Brian talks a little about this project on Krakow Film Music Festival 2017:

He and Chu must've gotten on well during NOW YOU SEE ME 2. Interested to hear Tyler working on a romantic comedy.

From Marvel films to this...

Yes.

And what is that supposed to mean?

Everything is racist, according to a bunch of nuts in Hollywood, yet it's not racist to make a film titled "CRAZY RICH ASIANS". Nope, that's okay.

That he's gone from scoring tent pole films on a regular basis to what looks like an awful comedy. What inference did you draw from my comment?

Are they crazy and rich, or just crazy rich?

And whose to say he won't go back? Despite critical opinion, they're not gonna stop making FAST AND FURIOUS movies.

Well the next FF is the last one and wasn't there a falling out between Tyler and Marvel over Avengers? Didn't he end up scoring Furious 7 when Marvel needed him to re score parts of the Avengers?

This film is based on a moderately well regarded novel. Will it be stupid? I don't have any idea. There isn't even a trailer yet, as far as I can see.

"Crazy" modifies "Rich," not Asians. The Asians are crazy rich. They're not rich Asians who are crazy.

Successful composers (as Tyler is) don't necessarily covet tentpole movies. They raise your profile, but are often joyless, and can come with virtually no creative freedom. Tyler seems to be having a blast in that clip conducting big band music, instead of more action rat-a-tat that'll be buried under car screech sound effects.

There are two "Fast and Furious" movies yet to come, and if they're successful (as they likely will be), I don't see why they won't make still more, whatever they're saying now.

And I've never heard of any falling out with Marvel, though maybe I'm just unaware. If there was, it was likely because they weren't happy with the Avengers score, not because they expected him to hold his schedule open instead of taking other jobs.

The funny thing is that Tyler is about to be announced as the composer of a big, upcoming franchise movie any day now.

People aren't going to like it either.

I don't like when he's announced for anything, personally.

Well, I -- for one -- don't care about his big blockbuster stuff. At ALL.

If this is a type of project that gets him more in tune with the wonderful Tyler we heard on STANDING UP, I'm all for it. I'd like to see him focus more on smaller films, with smaller scores.
