It'd be hysterical if his score got rejected and they hired some MV "composer" to write a "power anthem" score!big grinbig grinbig grin

How about an alternative score track with Lorne Balfe? The film is suppose to be a lampoon on the new wave of Hollywood. But I really just want to see the movie.

According to this recent French interview, Stéphane Lerouge apparently plans to include this new Legrand score for THE OTHER SIDE OF THE WIND in another huge and excessive Legrand CD box set which shall comprise 20 discs and which shall still be released this year by Universal France:

"Un nouveau coffret Michel Legrand, dont Stéphane Lerouge vient de coécrire un livre de mémoires - J'ai le regret de vous dire oui - en comptera même vingt. Avec peut-être, enfin, la musique du fameux film inachevé d'Orson Welles que Netflix a restauré mais ne montrera finalement pas à Cannes, The Other Side of the Wind."

Great news.

Another Legrand box? That's impressive, but I already have the lavish 4CD set from a few years ago, and not sure I'm up for another big box. I hope it gets a separate release as well.

There was not only the 4 CD set from 2005, but don´t forget about the 11 CD box set Legrand/Demy and the 15 CD box set "Michel Legrand Antholgoy" from 2013. smile
I also hope that THE OTHER SIDE OF THE WIND may get a separate CD release, but I fear that Lerouge´s intentions go into a different direction. His strategy throughout the last years has been to issue such sets where he can recycle a lot of material which has already been released several times before and to just add then some new tracks to attract those collectors which had already bought the previous CDs.
It is obvious that most of the material which was on those box sets with 11 and 15 CD will crop up again on the planned box with 20 CDs.

That's a shame. Such a historically important score should be more widely available, not just be a bonus in a set no one can afford (or whose tracks many of us already own).

Thanks Stefan, I eagerly await news of the contents of this huge box set. Maybe it will contain a lot of previously unavailable and inedit material?

I can only be relieved now that I never upgraded from the 4-disc set!

Same here! But we might be surprised yet by the contents?

This 20 CD set will certainly also contain the complete score for Jean-Luc Godard´s VIVRE SA VIE from 1962. Legrand had written one theme with 11 variations of which Godard used only the first eight measures of the first variation for his film (and he used those eight measures over and over throughout the film!). The tapes for this complete score - which were long thought to be lost - have been found by Lerouge already a few years ago and it is quite clear that he wants to include that score in the 20 CD set.

Sounding better and better! I think I need to start setting some ducats aside for this.

I predict:
Lukas' film will come out before Welles'.

Not a word about THE OTHER SIDE OF THE WIND in this short interview, but I've read some nice things elsewhere about Legrand's score for Welles' last flick. Still waiting to hear more about that 20-CD set!
