I know I'm the only one, but I kind of miss the two disco tracks from the LP...

An excellent album. Its not as complete as the Fanderson album but apart from that it has pretty much all the best music ( I agree there's one or two elements that are missing or buried in the mix somewhat) and is a very well designed package overall. I honestly couldn't see the point in including 'The Latest Fashion' which was a very minor piece of source music. Its not an especially good piece either, but I suspect its inclusion was due more to the production team - ie Tim Mallett and Ralph Titterton - wanting to include something 'new' on the album; I don't think this was so much down to David Stoner's commercial aspirations! I'd agree with Heath's other comments. I'm hoping that Derek Wadsworth's Year 2 scores are forthcoming for the same treatment (I have the Fanderson set but even so....) as some of the mixes in that set were somewhat untrue to the spirit of the originals as well - eg 'Space Warp'. A decent representation of Year 2 is going to take 2 CDs for sure, because Wadsworth wrote a hell of a lot more music than Gray did for the series. I suppose a follow-up to Year 1 is a possibility too, though I think the CD as its been released is a very good overall representation of the Barry Gray scores. What a pity Gray himself is not around to see his music finally getting the commercial airing it deserves though....

I also would love a release of the Year two scores. One track on the Fanderson sounds terrible, nothing at all like how is sounds in the episode. I hope a little judicious re-mixing would fix it.

"Kitsch" is a dangerous word to use in the postmodern era... Can you elaborate, please?

Which track would you be referring to? What, can't you read my mind? The beginning of Journey to Psychon, when the first act and the episode titles begin. I always loved that cue as a kid, and when I got the CD I was crushed that it sounded nothing like it.

I agree. In fact, Wadsworth's scores work better on album than they did in the episodes. The episodes had this screaming music for some not-to-great fistfights and chases, and some (seemingly) cheesy lounge muzak in some lighter episodes. But when I got the CDs, I was pleasantly surprised to find I liked the music a LOT more separated from the visuals. About Space Warp: during one of the blistering action cues, I remember the Promotional CD sounding just like the TV version. Then Fanderson give me opened up stereo and I heard this little "mariachi" like horn totting in the background. And I hated it. Sometimes, too much goodness ain't so good. Well, for me anyway as Ilike to have the version I fell in love with, not some tricked up "supposed to be like this" version. Even if my preferred version is inferior. Of course, no one wants to put out an inferior mono album, so I'm prolly alone in this.

When I bought the set, I was just happy to have the Destruction of Psychon cues since they were my favorite 1999 cuues growing up. When I heard the whole deal in stereo, even with the changes I didn't like, I really gained a lot of respect for Derek. His music is underrated because it's attached to an inferior season of episodes. But his music is excellent, vibrant and full of life and energy. It's also complex with some very imaginative electronics. So, yeah, I'd love to have some tracks in mono (actually, only the one I mentioned, since the promo album is a great alternative and has more alternate themes), but overall, the double CD is really fantasic. P.S. I'm glad you knew what I meant re: the mariachi horns. My terminology sucks.
