not good at this , but its very light , bouncy, slightly jazz oriented, some one else can describe it better on here, i am sure. all i know is i likeit a lot. and u cannot go wrong with his PICNIC.

Any Wednesday has a terrific and catchy main theme - Duning was one of the great melodists in film scoring, and Any Wednesday is wonderful in every way. For me, one of the most underrated film composers ever - and if I might, FSM's own Toys In The Attic is an incredible release.

Very catchy... one of my favorite Duning scores. Highly recommended.

I've always loved TOYS IN THE ATTIC, and saw the film for the first time (TCM) a few days ago. Incredible performances by Geraldine Page and Wendy Hiller, made all the more poignant by Duning's score.
ANY WEDNESDAY is excellent, and typical of the swingin' 60s scoring of romantic comedies. The FSM release is paired with John Williams' NOT WITH MY WIFE YOU DON'T, written in the same basic idiom, and it's interesting to compare the two.
The Williams score is vastly better, but the Duning is still a nice companion.

Duning often gets too "wishy-washy", IMO (if that makes sense), while Williams' music often has a certain edginess about it - despite being loungey cocktail jazz. While I haven't seen the film, the soundtrack is full of fun setpieces that just makes it entertaining.

But there was also DeVol...
His scores for the Doris Day comedies are IMHO as good as Mancini's scores for movies like this.

I received the "Any Wednesday" soundtrack CD on Saturday, 2 days after ordering it, and I'm embarrassed that I have to include it in the "You can't go home" category of soundtracks I loved in my youth but bored me to distraction when I bought them many years later, which isn't the first time this has happened to me.

Agreed, other than I should add Neal Hefti to this select few. As I have no scores by him, I can't include Frank De Vol but I've always enjoyed his scores when watching films of this genre. Those by John Williams I own, NWMW,YD, Guide for the Married Man and Penelope are distinctly weaker - in my opinion.
Any Wednesday is one of the best.
