Are there any scores of "The Twilight Zone" that were never released on C.D. (the ones that were actually backup recordings), but WERE available as isolated scores on the D.V.D.s? There are many of them as isolated bonus tracks on the DVDs! Are you looking for ALL of the composers? Or just Herrmann and Goldsmith? For some reason, "Time Enough At Last", by Leith Stevens, exists neither on the soundtrack ablums nor as an isolated score track within the Image Entertainment DVD packages. But Jerry Goldsmith's "The Four Of Us Are Dying" and "Nightmare As A Child" are preserved as DVD bonus tracks, as is Nathan Van Cleave's "What You Need", Lucien Moraweck's "The Purple Testament", Rene Garriguenc's "The Monsters Are Due On Maple Street", and Lyn Murray's "A Passage For Trumpet". Ironically, some of the episodes which had no music written for them have an isolated score bonus track on these DVDs, which consists of library stock music usage. And all these above are only from the 1st season... ...there's much more isolated DVD tracks throughout the subsequent seasons' packaging.

As I type, I am listening to Fred Steiner's great and underrated music for Miniature, specifically underscoring the moments when the villain enters the parlor to sweep the young matron away. Really appreciate these isolated scores. Steiner's work on that show was phenomenal. MUTE is so good, I watch it and marvel that scores like that for television were just taken for granted back then.

Have you discovered any other scores missing from the dvds? Well, since I couldn't sleep I checked and ripped the following isolated scores from season 1 and 2 and the problem is... I get TWICE DVD 5 of season 1 and NO DVD 4 !!! This is quite upsetting since A World of Difference is one of my top 10 favourite episodes and it says "isolated score" and, worse, Nightmare as a child contains an isolated Goldsmith's score you can't find on the 40th Anniversary CD set !!! So, yes the other isolated scores on season 1 and 2 are "there", as stated. None is missing BUT I can't tell regarding the fourth DVD... I sent an e-mail to Image Entertainment and hope they will accept to send me a genuine DVD 4... but I'm not sure of this : they might think I broke it and I want it to be replaced ! Anyway, sorry for those who consider this should be on the Non-Film Score Discussion but since this thread was "on" and I began to answer on it, I thought it would be logical to end it on it... Sincerely, Angel PS : Incidentally, if you know by any chance the number of the previous two DVD's - individual release - where I can find both episodes I'm talking about I really could use the info ! Just in case Image Entertainment turns me down...

I transferred the audio, which was taken from original 35mm fullcoat 3-track mono and half-inch 3-track, for the definitive DVD and Blu-Ray release. The music was separate along with the efx and dialog and this is how we were able to do isolated scores. Unfortunately, this wasn't possible on "Time Enough At Last" (and "Howling Man" plus several in Season 5) as there were only mono optical tracks available, where the music is 'married' to the efx and dialog.
