I remember absolutely loving this film when I first saw it in the early 80's.
It's a low-key thriller starring Stacey Keach and Jamie Lee Curtis, about a truck driver (Keach), travelling across Australia, who becomes involved with a hitchhiker (Curtis), and a game of cat-and-mouse with a serial-killer ensues.
The Australian outback locale adds immensely to the feeling of alienation and isolation that Keach feels during the film.
Like other Richard Franklin* films, it owes a great deal to Alfred Hitchcock (indeed, he would go on to direct the massively underrated PSYCHO II) in it's execution and technique.
It also features a spot-on Brian May score, who cements the whole thing with a bolero-like main theme and some excellent suspense scoring.
I just picked up the DVD for under a fiver on amazon and cannot wait to sit down and relive this film.
It's just a shame I cannot do likewise with the impossible to find CD, which is long out of print.
Nobody here has a copy they want to sell or trade, do they?
Anyway, anyone seen this film? Heard the score? What d'ya think?

yes i saw the film some years ago and it was very good and the music by brian may was very good too it should have a cd release i would like that very much......
It did have a CD release (a twofer paired with May's score for PATRICK) - pretty good score, and instantly recognisable as a Brian May score.
The film was very suspenseful and quite atmospheric as I recall (haven't seen it for years); I remember that previous to this film, I'd only ever seen the writer (Everett de Roche) credited on various Australian action series, like CHOPPER SQUAD and SPECIAL SQUAD, etc. He went on to pen some top-notch features.

I LOVE this score. Definitely one of my "happy place" cd's that I throw on when I'm feeling in the dumps. That bolero is so catchy and brimming with Brian May awesomeness.

A marvelous little thriller... fine cast... some intentional black humor pulled off with quite a bit of flair.
The score by Brian May adds to the proceedings.
So glad 1M1 released a whole slew of Brian May scores a couple of decades ago. They do pop up from time to time, but usually have a higher price tag than most.
I know what I will be watching tonight... Love this movie.

No, he did the first two Mad Max films ;-)
Love Road Games. The scence where Keatch counts the carcasses in his truck and finds one too many is genuinely chilling.
I've been put off revisiting the film as reviews say the DVD transfer isn't so good but hopefully Arrow - who have done such an awesome job of far less deserving horrors (The Car, Squirm) - will give it a decent Blu-ray release.
