Last night Italy aired a 2 part TV movie COME UN DELFINO, a true life story of Alessandro Dominici who had to give up swimming due to a heart condition. It was scored by Ennio Morricone. There is no clue about the score itself but someone recorded Morricone working with Flavia Astolfi on the isolated vocal part of it:

He has two films waiting in the wings to be scored. His complete album of his songs sung by Hayley Westenra is about to come out. He has recently worked on a number of commercials and ringtones. He has over 400 scores behind him.

He is 82 years old. If you can think of someone comparable at this level of activity let me know.

I can't think of a better definition of a true force of nature: Ennio Morricone.

Last night Italy aired a 2 part TV movie COME UN DELFINO...

Last night is exactly... now on Canale 5 channel. Tomorrow (Mar 2nd) they're airing part 2.
If it's successful there will be a second season.

Tomorrow I'll let you know my first impression about the music and the fiction.

Knew the title but didnt know what it was about, thanks henry.

Unless you count his absolute music - then add about another 115 pieces - I believe its closer to about 470, Henry.
Certainly he's added a few each year since the last count which takes it to somewhere in that region. It isnt 500 like some sources claim. I know in his busiest year in the early 70s he did 22. Thats phenomenal.

Who even has 300 titles?
I play it conservative because some people can't get their heads around such numbers.
And the fact he does ALL of his own orchestrations makes it seem almost surreal.

NOTES
A true life story of Alessandro Dominici who had to give up swimming due to a heart condition.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
MAIN ACTORS Raoul Bova, Barbora Bobulova, Ricky Memphis, Maurizio Mattioli, Paolo Conticini

Sure,
Morricone ain't got nothin' on 92 year old Jazz composer Gerald Wilson.

Thanks I kinda meant in the film music world.
I have heard of Gerald Wilson but didn't realize he was the same type of workaholic as Morricone seems to be at 82.
Fantastic at 92!

I've been trying on several Italian sites but I could find only movie posters. Sorry

by the way, after having seen the huge success, a sequel has been already annouced by Mr Bova himself

I received my copy of this today and its a very good Morricone score. Nothing groundbreaking by the maestro at this stage, an almost heroic main title, a few cues with female voice and a few with choir, which are actually quite sacred sounding in a way. Very melodic, lush with some suspense thrown in (and harmonica in places).
One thing that I find a bit disturbing though, the reverse of the inlay card has a photo of 5 buff Italians in banana hammocks!! Even worse than that poster above!! If you can ignore that, a fine score for Morricone-freaked collectors!

Ive been listening to this a lot over the past weekend, and I think my comments above may not have been entirely accurate. It really is a beautiful score, some nice heartwarming cues. I wouldn't mind seeing the film at some stage .
