The first thing I must start off by saying is that you have never heard a Marco Beltrami like Soul Surfer. It is utter brilliance and so, so beautiful. Second, I hasten to add that currently (3/30/11) there is still no score release, so I am referring to the six audio samples available on Marco's website, total time approximately 19 minutes. These have just now become available making their world premiere I believe!

And let me tell you, forget a second about the fact that I love all things Beltrami, trust me when I tell you that you are in for a treat when you listen to these cues. Truly something wholly fresh and different in tone than just about anything Marco's ever written. Angelic female vocals, beautiful lyrical and soaring string themes, terrifyingly menacing action/suspense music aided by deep-voiced Hawaiian male singers, native Hawaiian instruments and players, festive and joyous performances, wall-shattering pounding ethnic percussion...this one has it all. "Shark Attack" has got to be one of the most unbearably suspenseful (in the best possible way) cues this composer has ever penned and the instrumentation is just unbelievable. "Soul Surfer Main Title" is so heavenly you will think you are dreaming -- I defy you to listen to it and not get chills.

Seriously...men, women, children of all ages, Beltrami-lovers, Beltrami-nonlovers...rush to hear these samples because they will blow you away!!! Marco Beltrami, known by me for his consistent ability to impress and mesmerize, has truly taken his game to a new and glorious level. It's good to be alive...

As I mentioned in the other Beltrami thread (...) it's his best in many years.

Beltrami is often very hit or miss with me. More about my tastes than his capabilities as a composer, though.

Still, this is ... very nice. Half Pint Boards especially.

"Bout a 9.5 on the ol' Richter Scale there, eh Rube?"

"Shark Attack" sounds like something out of Beltrami's horror scores. Not an insult, by the way; it really puts you in the mindset of being attacked by a vicious killer.

I don't really have a nagging interest to see the film, but it would be tragic if the score went unreleased.

Man I so love "Shark Attack." The way Beltrami uses the chanting Hawaiian voice, with processed electronic echoing voices (1:18-1:30) in the background and thrilling rhythmic percussion...love the way he drags out the processed vocal from 1:30-1:39...

It would be tragic if the score went unreleased...certainly I'd want to hear it for myself but I think this score should be widely available to everyone so that everyone can hear how versatile and imaginative Beltrami can be and it'd be great to have a wide variety of genres that he's worked on available on the market so people can further discover just how amazing of a composer he really is...if all that's available to them are Marco's horror and action CDs then they aren't seeing/hearing just how deep his talent goes...

An amazing year for Beltrami fans so far, and it's only the beginning of April! Beltrami is the man! He's better than ever.

The SHARK ATTACK theme sends the same chills down my spine as Goldsmith's african themes
for THE GHOST AND THE DARKNESS did when I first heard it.

Beltrami is clearly one of the brightest stars on todays composer heaven.

And the BETHANY'S WAVE cue is absolutely one of the best I've heard in years.

Bring on the Score release, and I'm so gonna be 1:st in line when Soul Surfer hits the cinemas here in Sweden.

I can't wait to see the film myself...and honestly I'll watch any movie with Marco's music in it...especially a film that I know will be so elevated based on my prior knowledge of the brilliant score. Pardon my relentless praise.

I truly feel like Marco has opened up a wonderful door to a new level of talent with his new score for Soul Surfer. It's just totally unlike anything he's ever done, but it's so surprising (and at the same time not surprising) that he delivered the score to this project with so much maturity, beauty, and creativity...He's always been my favorite composer since Scream and it's just an incomparable thrill to see him succeed like this and reach new stratospheric heights of brilliance with a fresh new sound, made even more exciting as it's released in tandem with Scream 4 which is a trip down memory lane to where he began his illustrious career, showing how much he's grown and how capable he is of evolving while maintaining his distinctive and commanding voice as a composer. I really feel like this is a very special time for this composer, and definitely for myself as a fan. smile

Well, we'll see as soon as the rest of the score is available. Those 19 minutes are still only a "small" peak of an iceberg ;-)
