Yes!!! Not that I doubted it, but I know his streak of scores released to CD may always get broken. Here's hoping all the score ends up on the album. Maybe it's just a shorter score and there are some pop songs mixed in.

Nice. I think this could be different from Desplat's typical stuff. Maybe on the vein of Hostage? Hmm. Have to admit I sincerely doubt that. HOSTAGE is an action thriller, this is a low budget movie about an immigrant family trying to make a living in the poor section of Los Angeles.

I can't believe they're breaking Desplat's streak now that he's on top. He's had every score released to CD since UPSIDE OF ANGER in 2005. You'd think Varese would have jumped in, as they clearly love him. I'm guessing some issue with the stupid pop song on the album precluded them from releasing it.

You'd think Varese would have jumped in, as they clearly love him. I'm guessing some issue with the stupid pop song on the album precluded them from releasing it. But remember that music does not go the download-only route simply because no CD label jumped in to "save" it. This music is owned by some company (presumably Summit Entertainment), and it is up to them to determine how they can make the most money off this asset. Without knowing any of the specifics of the financial arrangement, it's quite probable they simply felt they could make more money releasing this themselves on iTunes, where Apple takes a share that is less than the combined share that a label like Varese plus the retailer would take. Ah, but Summit isn't releasing the "album" themselves. It's being released by Nacional Records, a label specializing in Latin music. The pop song at the end by some group called Ozomatli must be the reason for this, I certainly can't imagine Nacional Records wanted to release an album of film score. I suspect it's like the soundtrack to Die Another Day. Because it included the one Madonna song on it, the David Arnold score album was required to be released by Maverick Records, Madonna's personal label. Summit chose Varese to release THE GHOST WRITER. I suspect that if the pop song did not exist, A BETTER LIFE could have gone the same route. Maybe there's still hope that Varese can persuade Summit to allow them to release a CD, without the pop song, perhaps timed to the video release...

Wow!!!! I bought this for $5.99 at Amazon and it's incredible, up there with LA LIGNE DROITE and LA FILLE DU PUISATIER as a favorite score of the year, and after only one listen. The final cue, "Coming Home", is stunning. This is Desplat at his most melodic, hugely orchestral best. No bland underscoring here, it's gorgeous. Highest recommendation to all who are considering it!!!

The main theme has the tragic, driving energy of the themes from LUST, CAUTION and CHERI. Already in love with it and have listened to the final cue about five times in a row.

Not on amazon.co.uk yet. Maybe closer to when the film comes out over here on 29th July... This is one of the things that is annoying about downloads, if there was a CD I could just import it now but I can't download from amazon US so have to wait for it to become available locally.
