This is a comments thread about Blog Post: FSM Catalog—Low Quantities Report, Part 5, CD Vol. 8 (2005) by Lukas Kendall

Vol. 8, No. 8: King Kong (Barry): We have made 5500 units of this and have 359 still in stock. This was intended to be an unlimited edition but for reasons I don't want to go into, the 359 remaining are all that’s left—it will not be repressed. I was delighted to be able to render obsolete the atrocious “Mask label” bootleg of this John Barry classic. We were able to license the Reprise album from Rhino, but limited to the album tracks and master. Jeff Bond says he used to sing the disco track “Kong Hits the Big Apple” with his friends as a telling thumbs-down when an overhyped movie failed to deliver.

Does it means that someone (FSM?!) will make complete 2CD version?!
Or it means only that KK will not be repressed?

I've held off on this release hoping that an expanded edition would surface. Have I made the right choice? Or should I order this will it's still available? I hate reading between the lines!

My goodness! King Kong expanded???

I just received the Glass Slipper last week and it's phenomenal, highly recommended. I was totally unfamiliar with Kaper until I started picking up some older FSM CDs starting with Mutiny on the Bounty. He has a rather modern sound for a composer of the Golden Age and I'd really encourage younger listeners (like myself) to look into his work.

Too bad this is such a poor seller - it deserves to be more widely heard.

Chris.

Vol. 8, No. 14: Crossed Swords (Jarre): We have made 2000 of the 3000 copies, and have 466 in stock. I was disappointed this Maurice Jarre score didn’t sell better—it has one of his classic swashbuckling action themes.

This is a shocker! It's a beautiful score! Score fans are missing out if they don't have this one in their collection.

Me too! I had painful choice last Saturday - what order together with Gremlins - Appointment or King Kong? I have chosen Appointment - and now I hope that I made correct choice!

Vol. 8, No. 13: The Time Machine (Garcia):
Great CD cover by Joe Sikoryak.

I agree!

1400 x 1400 cover:
http://www.albumartexchange.com/covers.php?id=207373&q=time+machine+scott+h.

All sizes:

I did The Time Machine cover before I really knew what I was doing with PS and proper filters. I could do a better job (especially in sharpness and noise) if I did this one now.

I am doing covers for The Yakuza and Thing From Another World soon. smile

I don't see why it would need to be 2CD, as 1CD is plenty big enough for the complete score, but I do *hope* this is what it means.

But, as it says, the man don't wanna go into it.

Cheers

1 CD is enough for complete score + songs + alternate (if it was recorded)? If so - I will take two copies!
Sweet dreams... Nothing else!!! big grin

Lukas is a pretty bright guy and I'm sure he's well aware of the speculation frenzy we like to whip ourselves into. I don't see why he'd make such a vague statement without reason and it seems like a reasonable guess that this is coming soon, if not from FSM, then maybe from Lalaland or Intrada.

Damn it, just buy the version available now. Otherwise if there never is a complete score release I don't want to see post after post here of bitching by those who "missed out" on the original FSM album. There are more important things in life to get all in a tizzy about other than whether or not a complete KING KONG was somehow hinted being at.

Or just wait on it - there's still 360 copies kicking around of a release that's been out for 5 years. I'd be surprised if this sold out before the final FSM CD was announced. I'm sure they'll be low quantity alerts if it does somehow end up close to sell out before then.

What a shame, says I, that my two favorites of the batch ("Green Mansions" and "Two Weeks in Another Town") are the two worst sellers!

LK, I love these 'behind-the-scenes' and personal impression reports.

Really? You could have fooled me with your multiple exclamation marks and constant hand-wringing questions with multiple question marks that you posted. That has all the hallmarks of a tizzy.
