Norths Fox stereo scores - Desiree, the Racers, Agony and the Ecstasy, 4. (next in line is THE CHILDREN'S HOUR)    Posted:   May 7, 2012 - 6:17 AM     By:   TheFamousEccles   (Member) In No Particular Order: - Death of a Salesman (Film and Stage versions) - The 13th Letter - Viva Zapata! - All Fall Down My fifth slot is something of a wild card, that, depending on my mood, can go to: - Cleopatra (or A Streetcar Named Desire) (or Dragonslayer) I love everything else I've heard by him, as well - particularly some of the more brittle, strident passages from "Africa," or the ethereal musings of his unused "2001" - but the ones I listed above are the scores are the ones that I seem to come back to with a fair degree of frequency. Africa / Symphony For A New Continent Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf? Les Miserables 2001 Spartacus Currently getting the most attention is the new Intrada, Sounder/A Decision For Chemistry. A wonderful surprise. I also generally enjoy a varigated listening experience.    Posted:   Jul 25, 2014 - 6:22 AM     By:   Graham Watt   (Member) No problem in saying that my totally top fave Alex North score is - 1) CLEOPATRA - because it's a brilliant listen from beginning to end. I'm going to surprise you all with my second choice... 2) THE SOUND AND THE FURY - because I love every second of it. And nobody ever mentions it. Things get a bit muddy from now on, but... 3) A STREETCAR NAMED DESIRE - probably. Numbers 4 and 5 (and 6 to 20) all get kind of jumbled up in my head because, in general, quite a few of his other scores have got one or two annoying moments which detract from the overall brilliance, but I would probably go for... 4 and 5) SPARTACUS or THE MISFITS. Or THE AGONY AND THE ECSTASY or ALL FALL DOWN. But CLEO's at the top. While I've never done any actual review on THE SOUND AND THE FURY, I do mention it within my coverage of Varese's Club CD containing THE 13TH LETTER: http://www.filmscoremonthly.com/board/posts.cfm?forumID=1&pageID=4&threadID=88717&archive=0 If you love THE SOUND AND THE FURY, Graham, you should get (if you haven't already) the VS disc of VIVA ZAPATA and THE 13TH LETTER...or forever be a numbskull! Here's my input from that thread: "THE THIRTEENTH LETTER is another hidden gem courtesy (yet again) Varese Club. This early North effort may not be his most well-integrated score, as, for example, his theme for Rochelle appears only once during the album. Never fear - recycling is here. That Rochelle theme becomes re-incarnated into THE CHILDREN'S HOUR to better effect. THE 13TH LETTER is another early North 'foundation' template in which one can hear future scores: tracks 8 & 9 & 21 can all be heard later on in THE SOUND AND THE FURY, while track 22 is yet another dry run for SPARTACUS. I hope more soundtrack collectors would heed North's LETTER and purchase up the "fewer than 300 (currently only 200) copies remaining".
