The director of this film (Alan Taylor) had directed only three other films and Rachel Portman scored two of them. I would find it interesting if Portman didn't get the job.
But then again, Marvel has some weird policies (such as never shooting a film in 3-D and choosing to post-convert instead).
If not Portman, I could see BT getting considered. The originally attached director (Patty Jenkins) worked with BT on her previous film and him doing Thor 2 would have been interesting.
Is it possible to score a Thor movie where the main character's theme is on clarinet backed by chopping strings though?

Well, Alan Taylor directed six episodes of SEX AND THE CITY, and Aaron Zigman scored the two SEXY AND THE CITY features (which Taylor had nothing to do with), so I'd call that proof positive that Aaron Zigman will score THOR 2.
But wait... Alan Talyor also directed the MAD MEN pilot, and Jon Hamm was in that THE DAY THE EARTH STOOD STILL remake from 2008, so that must mean that Tyler Bates will be adapting Elliot Goldenthal's previously written music for THOR 2, which is probably what the Wikipedia entry was referring to.
Unless, of course, Taylor decides to go for a smooth jazz sound for his version of THOR, in which case I'd put my money on MAD MEN composer David Carbonara.

Would be so dissapointed if Doyle did not return. His themes for Thor are like another character in the film and would really be missed.
Poor taste and judgment, as usual. Rachel Portman is the least suitable choice for this kind of film. She can only provide undernourished, meek, thin and watery background music, which she has proven on numerous occasions. How on earth would she be qualified to tackle a cartoon superhero adventure?

Personally... I do hope that Patrick Doyle returns. However, in the event Portman or Goldenthal would get the film... that would be great too. The potential list is pretty damn good.
Not only is Goldenthal a better composer than Doyle, by about a zillion percent, but I trust it that he, unlike Doyle, wouldn't sell his soul to come up with a Zimmer factory-style score just to get a job.

TV shows aren't the same as movies. A director doesn't get much say in their composer (that's the producer's job).
But seeing how Taylor's built a relationship with Portman, it makes her a strong choice.
