As expected, Clint Mansell will be scoring Darren Aronofsky's religious epic on how Noah built his ark. Russell Crowe plays Noah, Jennifer Connelly plays his wife and Anthony Hopkins, Emma Watson, Logan Lerman and Ray Winstone will also appear (Liam Neeson was rumored to be in the film as well but it looks like he turned it down).

Thoughts?

Bring it on. I'm all about any Mansell music, especially for an Aronofsky film. Looking forward to hearing what Mansell comes up with!

Aronofsky posted a pic of Kronos Quartet (woooooooooooooooo!!!!) in the studio recording this score.

One of my most anticipated scores for 2014, for sure.

I am eagerly anticipating this release as a fan of Clint Mansell, Kronos Quartet, and especially when those 2 work together.

Very much looking forward to this! Mansell is one of the very few composers working today who can satisfy me.

An "Editorial Review" from this album's Amazon page is given below. I am not sure how accurate any of it is since it's author is very wrong about the director.

"Noah is the first English speaking film by Park Chan-Wook, the director of Oldboy. The film is very musical with a score from Clint Mansell (Milan s second record with Clint: he is the composer of Requiem for A Dream, Pi, The Fountain, Black Swan), an original piano piece by composer Philip Glass and "Becomes The Color, " the original credit song by Emily Wells."

Wow, how wrong can one reviewer be?

Supposedly the end credits song was written by Patti Smith, and gets performed in the film as a lullaby to Emma Watson's character.

There appears to be slight confusion with the Mansell-scored Park Chan-wook film Stoker from last year.

So I've given this a thorough listening after claiming my iTunes purchase this morning. I admit, this is a score to really delve into. My first impression is that it's a giant, nearly old school Biblical epic score, filtered through Mansell's unique musical approach. It seems a close cousin to his earlier epic for director Aronofsky, The Fountain. Now, I don't want you Golden Age fans to start salivating, as this is from my ears and opinions and certainly many of you will criticize me for comparing to the classic works of Miklós Rózsa, but this is certainly the biggest thing I've heard from Mansell's output.

The Patti Smith/Mansell collaboration that concludes the album might turn some off (not me, it's a killer send-off), and I do wish this one had a climax and denouement as truly spectacular as The Fountain, but many of the tracks reach heights which are truly outstanding. I greatly anticipate the movie to see how unsubtle Aronofsky gets with this monster of a score.

I certainly wouldn't compare this to anything golden age but it is big all right. From the first four tracks alone it sounds like a Mansell score with all that usually means. The orchestra is certainly accompanied by plenty of electric guitars, percussion, and synthesizers. I can't decide yet if I like it but I suspect it will be enjoyed by Mansell fans. I actually used to be a huge fan of Mansell when I first started listening to scores but I moved away from it later. EDIT: yup, similar style throughout.

It sounds like a direct sequel to THE FOUNTAIN up until a more thoughtful and less rambunctious final movement. The song is great.

I think the way I'd describe this score: The Fountain without the memorable themes.

Some of it is interesting to listen to and I still enjoy it (and it's kind of more mysterious than The Fountain) but overall, I was hoping for more of a big, lush, memorable theme (like a lot of his scores have).

Aside from a film proper not familiar with Mansell's music. I listened to the samples and they somewhat interest me. The final song is awful.
