Good to see that some of Goldsmith's more "intimate" scores (like Islands in the Stream) at least made the runners-up list. He would have liked that.

Well, the votes were very curious.
For example, Legend did a excellente final run. At beginning, Legend had few votes (incredible), and Gremlins, First Blood and Rambo II were in high positions.
Total Recall was similar to Legend; in the final rounds, many people gave many votes to Total Recall (I Remember a vote of 10 points).
And it's curious to see Psycho 2 in the runners up (great score, by the way), and not In Harm's Way, Freud, Capricorn One, Explorers, Night Crossing or The Great Train Robbery.
In few days, I hope to edit an article, in English and Spanish about this subject.
And yes, it's incredible not to see Chinatown in the Top Ten... or Patton... or Papillon (for me, one of his best works), but Goldsmith has many Masterpieces... too many. :-)

I have always found it interesting (and humorous) that amoungst the Goldsmith fan base, who all laud the man as a great in unison, have such a disparate view of the scores within the body of his work individually.
The final top ten did not surprise me at all, but for TOTAL RECALL (a score I like, but don't think rates anything near a top 10 rating; somewhere in my top 30, yes; top 20 no), and the runners up list contained 3 of my remaining 4 personal top 10 scores (as stated above, the list contained 6, only THE GREAT TRAIN ROBBERY didn't make the cut, but that is a personal favorite that I know doesn't rank high on others lists, so it's absence on the 20 doesn't surprise me).
Of the top ten and runners up, again I understand why they are there, and some of them (GREMLINS is another example) are, for me, top 30, not top 20, but there's that wide, wide variety of taste and enjoyment that makes up the base raising its interesting (and humorous) head, and leading to some surprising choices to the views of us all.

NIHM is Masterpiece, incredible score.
I Think the Top of Runners Up is Fantastic. Papillon, The Sand Peebles or Outland, for me, are obligated (specially first and second score).
But it's complicated. In a Top 20, it will be more easy to choose the best score or the most enjoyable works (or mixing both criteria). But, If you do a Top 20... why not 30? Jerry Goldsmith is a composer with too many masterpieces and fantastic works.
Scores like Night Crossing, Nihm, The Challenge, The Russia House, The Blue Max, In Harm's Way, Lonely Are the Brave, The Great Train Robbery or Logan's Run had few votes.
It's incredible to see the wide variety of tastes between people.
