PARADISE / CAN'T BUY ME LOVE Label: Intrada Special Collection Volume 251 Date: 1991 / 1987 Tracks: 29 Time = 60:08 World premiere release of two film scores by two talented veteran composers of the medium! PARADISE is 1991 Mary Agnes Donoghue drama set in small country town, starring Melanie Griffith, Don Johnson, Elijah Wood, Thora Birch. Idyllic summer ambience warmly captured by David Newman with gentle melodic ideas, rich harmonies, strong orchestral colors. Newman excels at capturing Americana feel in music, maintains dramatic flow throughout. As children play central role in movie, Newman keeps their innocence in forefront of score with meld of transparent writing, sensitive material. This merging of haunting melody on one side with dramatic ideas on other side makes for rewarding listen! CAN'T BUY ME LOVE is 1987 Steve Rash high school-set tale with Patrick Dempsey, Amanda Peterson, Seth Green. Robert Folk writes to central teen romance of story with light, highly melodic approach. While moments of drama appear, Folk keeps focus on lightweight melody, breezy pace. Both scores mastered from two-track stereo session DATs, presented courtesy of Disney. Can't Buy Me Love is a vintage sounding score from its late 80's time period. I absolutely love it and can't wait to get my hands on it. Never heard of Paradise but it's David Newman so i have no doubt I'll enjoy it. Thanks Intrada.

I expected the David Newman to be the cheesy score that pushed me away from this but it is the Robert Folk one. Shame, it sounds like I might enjoy it without that funk. Sample of Track 17 and 29's use of guitar doesn't do it for me. Doesn't sound like a very big orchestra on the rest of the samples either. Other Robert Folk samples are just a bit too 80s sounding to me. I am going to deflect some of the stones from you Sirusjr. I have to agree with you, I have loved everything Robert Folk has composed that is available, but this is not my type of Folk. I am amazed at how many people have bootlegs of everything here and they post it. I have not played SLIPSTREAM since after I read that it might have an issue, and I am still waiting to hear any news so I can listen to it again or toss it. Kim Tong

I am amazed at how many people have bootlegs of everything here and they post it. I have no opinion about this CD thus far - still early days - but I do so agree with you on the non-authorized recordings issue, especially when one considers the stink and sanctimony some people raise around here when the topic crops up. Not to put to fine a point on it, but in round figures, I own exactly none.

I SO ordered this. Can't wait to get these. Been wanting these scores forever. Thanks Intrada!!! For those that don't like that 1987 sound to Folks CBML, you either are too young, or too old. I was th e perfect age to enjoy this film in 1987 and the score fits the time period and the movie perfectly. This movie didn't need a huge orchestral score. It needed what Robert delivered and might I add was told to deliver. It's a great score with some truly lovely beautiful writing. Give it a chance

Kim Tong Do you ever have anything POSITIVE to say about any new release? Sheesh. This Folk/Newman combo is a winner. Thanks a lot Intrada
