OK, Sylvester Levay is one of my favorite composers, and I have tried to see as many films that he scored as possible. So, since the early 90s I have tracked down 25 movies with a Levay score, films from 1984 - 1994, the years he was active in Hollywood. So far I have seen these films scored by the Master of Melodic Themes: The Heroes Of Desert Storm Abduction Beauty & Denise Hot Shots! Cobra Stalking Laura Gladiator School Flashfire Stone Cold Dead Before Dawn In The Deep Woods Courage Mountain Burglar Manhunt: Search For The Night Stalker Cry In The Wild: The Taking Of Peggy Ann Airwolf (Pilot 1) Airwolf (Pilot 2) Navy Seals Mannequin Something Is Out There Invitation To Hell False Arrest Creator Sins Of The Father Donato & Daugther In addition to these, I have seen several Airwolf episodes that I haven't kept track of. And "Where The Boys Are '84" is on youtube, so I'll better see it before it's taken down. Anyone out there who has seen other Levay films? Any general Levay comments? Not a feature film, but I notice there's an album of music from the German tv series Medicopter 117 (which I'm sure was discussed or mentioned on the FSM forum a long time ago) and which is on Amazon and iTunes. There are several cues credited to Levay, including the theme.

A pity it's a download-only, but I'll surely be bying it. It sounds a little more Zimmer/orchestral-like, and less like his 80s stuff though. http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B0080CZY6U/ref=dm_sp_alb?ie=UTF8&qid=1377264891&sr=1-3-catcorr

With some exceptions, not actually a string of excellent films there. But I understand your 'mission'. I'm the same way with Williams, Elfman and Goldenthal. I need to see everything they've scored, even if it's crap. As for Levay, I don't really have much to contribute. I like what I've heard, but never taken the time to explore much. Sure, he was never the blockbuster guy, he did some features and a lot of TV films. But he worked extremely much during those 10 years.

He "composed" the musical SISI and never had to work again.

Cobra 1986 Stone Cold 1991 Touch & Go 1986 Navy Seals 1990 Werewolf tv serie 1987 Time Bomb 1984 Airwolf tv serie 1984 Burglar 1987 Annihilator 1986 Otherworl tv serie 1985 Mannequin 1987 Snow Kill 1990 Something is out there 1988 Invitation to hell 1984 and of course the underscore (unreleased score) from SCARFACE with Giorgio Moroder... You mean that you have seen these films? How are the scores from Touch & Go, Werewolf and Otherworld? Georges Delerue is also credited on Touch & Go - I wonder if his score got rejected?

Oh how my soul cries for not having the "Airwolf" and "Time bomb" music on CD. I guess you are familiar with the Mark Cairns Airwolf 2CD from 1999? Very good versions. Another release is coming soon. At least I've got a Time Bomb CDR in my collection. Better than nothing.

The Mark Cairns versions are no where close to the original, and most of all the named episodes are not well represented if at all. One tune I forgot last time was "Birds of paradise" which has a beautiful dance track when String dances with Isela Arragon (Barbara Luna). Another one that has fun music is "Natural born". As for the non-synth, it's the, as I call it "70s Black Beauty hunting" music, used at the end of "And they are us", "One way express" and "To snare a wolf". At least I've got a Time Bomb CDR in my collection. Better than nothing. You mean you have that soundtrack ORIGINAL and WITHOUT any other sounds???????!!!!!!!! D.S. I think I downloaded the Time Bomb tracks from that "thefaceofdeath" blog, which also featured other Levay scores. I don't know if the site is up any longer. Sound quality is no more than decent, sound effects mostly removed.

The synth sounds were totally innacurate as were the drums and percussion. Fair play though for the attempt, it filled people's needs at the time. Obviously, the new versions which have been done/programmed mostly by someone else are far more accurate now, although having said that, i've seen versions on youtube done by others which are just as accurate.

Mark Cairns CD was passable for its time but it was ridiculously overpriced I don't think it was particularly overpriced to begin with. But it became very expensive after it went out of print and dealers started to interfer.

This one from time bomb sounds very much like "Mind of the machine", a golden combo: 1984, Lando Calrisian, The black hole's Charles Piser, the sound from "Airwolf", and a super charged armed GMS Astro cab about to retreive a nuclear bomb. Things can't get better than that!! Time Bomb in particular, and some other scores as well ( Cobra ) are Levay in his Tangerine Dream clone mode... not sure if it was his choice or he was hired because he could ape the TD sound so expertly. Most likely he was hired for that sound in particular, as it seems in later years his sound strayed away from that style. I remember channel surfing when Time Bomb aired originally, and stopping to listen, thinking it was in fact a Tangerine Dream score He even out TD'd TD on the 3 O'Clock High score, where his contributions were more interesting than TD's own tracks He was very adept at that TD sequencer styled stuff... it'd be great to have some of this stuff on official CDs in crisp , pristine sound.
