YOR is no Zimmer lover, that is for sure.

But YOR remembers one score from him that he kind of liked and even helped the movie.

It is "Smilla's Sense of Snow".

IMDB says the score was composed by Harry Gregson-Williams and Hans Zimmer, so YOR is not sure it can be called a true Zimmer's score.

What is your pick?

It is "Smilla's Sense of Snow".

Smilla's Sense of Snow was all Gregson-Williams, no Zimmer, despite what it says on the CD case.

Are you sure about that?

So, the only score from Zimmer that YOR kind of liked is not from Zimmer at all?

That's scary stuff!

Prince of Egypt (but I heard the songs are not written by Z).

Last Samurai (horrible movie but the score is very good to listen to when jogging).

Pacific Heights.

But the most historically significant Zimmer score (not in a bad way, like Gladiator), is The Lion King.

I enjoyed Inception and the first Sherlock Holmes score immensely; they got right what went so, so wrong in many of his other recent scores.

His best work to me is Last Samurai. Love the music and the movie.

I really like Thelma & Louise. And I like Hannibal, even if that one is composed by Hans Zimmer-asterisk-and-fifteen-other-underlings.

Yor, I am going to kindly recommend that "qualifications for posters" be eliminated.
Things like "open to everyone", nonXXXX lovers, XXXX lovers only" make me leery. Hopefully, the board is a democracy, and only board rule violations should stop certain posts or opinions. Just my opinion.

YOR is just trying to know the opinions of non-zimmer-lovers about the composer to have a different perspective than the usual zimmer-worshipers' "Dark Knight is the best movie score of all times!" gibberish.

YOR is not dictator, on the contrary.

YOR smashes dictators and his minions!

There is precedent here. Over the years Ock has seen topics scattered about that "tailor" the thread towards those in favor or not in favor of this or that composer.

So YOR not first one to use qualifiers.

(From a sociological point of view, it has been interesting to watch these threads to see all the good folks who previously cried troll become the trolls themselves. It bemuses Ock that instead of offering an opinion on the topic question, they take the time to post vitriol about the question's right to exist. And if that weren't enough, if they feel a threadcrime is being committed, they don't simply click the Abuse Button and let Warriorguard Sones sort it out. Actually, it HAS occurred to Ock that maybe they already have clicked it, only to have Warriorguard Sones tell them behind the scenes that these threads are allowed. It not Ock's intention to preach, but there has to be more tolerance shown. Many noble warriors and warrioresses from faraway lands meet here to talk. Must allow for different WAYS of talking.)

It's all subjective, but for my money Hannibal is his best score. There's moments of true beauty and dark humor in it.

And I'd be interested to hear Yor's arguments why it's not good.
