One cue that comes to my mind is the first half "Operation Reciprocity" from James Horner's Clear and Present Danger. The first 90 seconds is full of bravado with typical Horner-esque brass and snare writing. It's a shame that as a whole, Clear and Present Danger is, in my opinion, an average Horner score. I'm surprised that Operation Reciprocity hasn't shown up in a movie trailer at one point or another.
Now You See Me from "Now You See Me". the first track is incredibly addictive, my 2nd most played cue of the year. the rest of the score though I don't know. not terrible just nothing matches that first track in my opinion
I'm not calling either of these average or below average scores, but I do find myself only listening to one main cue in both.
I think Desplat's music for Argo fits well but most of it doesn't hold my attention. However the cue for "cleared Iran space" is just gorgeous and a perfect celebration of freedom.
In Powell's Evolution, his Fire Truck Cue rises to the top. It is just fabulous and rocks!

Funny, Kevin, this score instantly came to mind when I read the title of your thread. But my choice for the "great cue" was the Main Title, which is one of the best pieces (IMO of course) Horner has ever concocted. Is it possible that there are two great cues in this average/below average score? I'll have to give your nomination another listen...
Too many to list. Of a few recent modern scores, some stick out to me. Jobs - John Debney - nothing interesting after the main titles cue. Mama - Fernando Velazquez - nothing beats that insanely awesome final cue Sunshine - John Murphy - A lot of crazy horror music but that well known Adagio cue he wrote that is re-used in trailers all over the place is amazing.
The "Suite - Amid A Crowd Of Stars" from Hostel II is really a wonderful piece of music, but the rest of the score is very average and lacks the energy of the first Hostel score.
The first track of "The Mutant Chronicles" is also fantastic, but the rest of the score is OK but nothing special.
