The first four tracks are from the Bernstein Filmmusic Collection recording. I should, perhaps, explain that I am based in the UK and so I found the download on the UK itunes ( www.apple.com/uk/itunes ) as one of the albums by Tiomkin available for downloading ( price : £7.99 ie British pounds sterling ). The album is one of the Classic Soundtrack Collector series and has 19 unnamed tracks, each one simply labelled Orchestral Suite . Thank you for your response, Doug. I have in fact now downloaded the album and it is exactly as you describe and predominently one of archival/ historical interest. While I have not had time to check the OST tracks against my DVD copy of the film and verify this, my first thoughts were that the OST 'music- effects' tracks had been lifted directly from the full soundtrack, given that some tracks end very abruptly - and almost in mid-bar - ie possibly just before the entry of dialogue! Given the release of its Wallis stablemate, Last Train from Gun Hill, I had anticipated that we would by this time have fully legitimate issue oF OK Corral, unless Gun Hill did not sell as hoped. Some years ago now, the owner of a celebrated Birmingham soundtrack emporium told me that he had ordered large quantities of the unofficail High and the Mighty cd in antipation of healthy sales and, contrary to expectations, his stock had scarcely moved. At least in the meantime, we have Bernstein's fine recording plus the excellent shorter suite by Kunzel ( along with Frankie Laine ) on the Roundup cd. There is no doubt that the Bernstein re-recording is a fine precis of he score and the edited version on the Kunzel version has the advantage of vocals by Frankie Laine. There are NO scoring sessions left for this film. I listened to a few cues that were left back in 1991. Awful sounding. Very few actual cues left and that ones that were were practically unplayable. I wouldn't go so far as to call it worthless, but it's disappointing. The pace is a bit sluggish, and there's no chorus backing up the soloist .
