I've seen Middle School girls give better line deliveries than the gal playing Juliet. Shows an estimated delivery date for Thurs (10/10), but we'll see if that is actually the truth...    Posted:   Oct 8, 2013 - 10:35 AM     By:   Ron Hardcastle   (Member) It's going to be a hard decision for me, because, as much as I like this composer, when I listened to all those samples, I didn't hear much that I craved hearing again, with none of it reaching the heights of what he wrote for, say, "A Single Man" and "W.E." But maybe it'll grow on me, as music sometimes can do, so I'm not going to dismiss it prematurely. As for the repeated references to Rota's score, that was a classic, a magical moment in history captured forever for the eye and the ear by Franco Zeffirelli and Nino Rota, and this new movie, however great it may or may not be, will never erase that.    Posted:   Oct 8, 2013 - 10:35 AM     By:   Mike Esssss   (Member) The samples are typically lovely and I'll absolutely get this, though I'm growing increasingly desperate for him to get a shot at another genre.    Posted:   Oct 8, 2013 - 1:52 PM     By:   MattyT   (Member) I listened to this on Spotify today and overall it's not bad, but not great, Nothing that really blew me away. The whole time I'm listening to it I kept wondering what Horner must have come up with. I would love to hear that and compare. It's the same way I feel when I listen to October Sky. As much as like Isham's music for that film, I always wondered what James Horner could have done with that score. Abel's Romeo and Juliet suffices, but I heard a lot of similarity to Copernicus’ Star. The score is very heavy on piano and strings. But how can we not discuss a new soundtrack for a film based on Shakespeare's "Romeo and Juliet" without mentioning Nino Rota's enchanting score? I was long a Rota fan, during his lifetime and afterwards, and I think it's quite proper to make the point that the new one won't erase my love for the old one. Seems a bit unneccesarily harsh. Yes, I know. It is harsh - for a composer I do like. It's just that Zeffirelli's film had such a superlative score by that giant of a composer. It really makes every similar effort these days seem not only uninspired but unnecessary...
