Decca Records is releasing Alexandre Desplat's score to Stephen Frears' PHILOMENA. So far I only see a digital release at Amazon UK. You can read more about it here:

It's been some time since a new Desplat, I will most definitely be buying this....once it comes out on cd.

That's a rather jolly cover, considering the rather tragic subject matter that the story covers. Makes me wonder about the tone of the film.

frown And Americans will no doubt be blocked form purchasing it, just as UK buyers so often are with digital versions from this country.

And people wonder why I still prefer CDs.

It apparently opens in the US on Nov 27, I'd assume we'll get the download then.

Get a proxy service and you'll never have such problems.

Since I never buy mp3 downloads, it's not an issue.

Does this site really offer a FLAC option?

I bought the FLAC from the site, couldn't wait for a potential CD release.

I for one am glad we're all up-to-the-minute with Maleficio's internal monologue.

The theme is one of Desplat's most unique: a carnival theme. The last track is a full carousel rendition.

Curious how the music works in the film.

Very charming score from Monsieur Desplat. It was actually a surprise, I was expecting something a lot more dramatic. Loved the theme first heard in "Landing in USA" specially because he managed to use it in several different ways, like the harp ostinato version that's all over the score. The main theme is lovely as well. Can't wait to see how the music works in the film!

I agree. I was completely surprised by how upbeat the score is considering the subject matter. But there is a hint of melancholy in that carnival themeā€¦

I'm going to use the last track as my alarm/ring tone.

Still holding out in hope of it getting a CD release - does anyone know more? It's Decca - don't they do CDs? smile

If it didn't get a UK CD release, most likely chance is in the US around the time the film comes out at the end of this month.

I found the audio samples very appealing. The film's coming attraction was intriguing.

I'll bite my thumb for now and wait to see how the film does once it premiers here in the USA.
I would presume that if the film's a big flop, then a digital download is what we'll have to settle for.

But if the film is at least a modest hit, then perhaps we may get either an on-demand CDR from Amazon, or even a pressed CD if we're lucky.

Whatever materializes, we'll have the music one way or another.
