Perseverance Records PRR 066
$14.98, Ships last week in November
The first 50 CDs will signed by Chris Franke and Craig Safan. Perseverance Records is proud to announce the reissue of the soundtrack to the Michael Mann thriller, Thief. Thief was Michael Mann’s directorial debut. The film featured James Caan as a professional safecracker who agrees to do a job for the mafia. Many consider this film to be James Caan’s best role to date. Also starring Tuesday Weld, James Belushi, Willie Nelson, Dennis Farina and a number of professional thieves as well as police in supporting roles, the film is now a classic of the 1980s. Scored by Tangerine Dream, it has become one of their signature film scores. Multiple versions of the score have been released over the years. Our release contains both Confrontation and Beach Scene, depending on what previous version of the LP or CD was sold, either of which were left off of previous reissues. In our opinion, this is one of the best electronic scores of the 1980s, and we are happy to bring it back with a limited edition run of 4,000 units. Many missed out on the last reissue, so we are happy to be offering this with the proper track list. Release Notes: - Terrific masters provided by Warner Music.
- Extensive liner notes by James Anthony Phillips.
- 9 track release that includes both Beach Scene and Confrontation. This corrects the errors on previous releases where both tracks were never on the same release. Usually it was a release with Confrontation and no Beach Scene or vice versa. Wounded Bird even had issues where the CD was pressed with a different version of the album (either Beach Scene was included or there was a version with Igneous missing).
- Only 4,000 copies will be manufactured. We will not make any more after we reach that total.
- We used the original Elektra LP cover art. We added an additional music credit for Craig Safan’s track, Confrontation.
- As we always state—our deal for this album lasts for a specific period of years. With the market shifting dramatically to digital, it is highly doubtful another label would reissue this recording. Grab it while you can.
Track Listing: 1. Beach Theme 3:46 2. Dr. Destructo 3:19 3. Diamond Diary 10:50 6. Scrap Yard 4:39 7. Trap Feeling 2:59 8. Igneous 4:46

Wonderful score! Sadly my version doesn't have "Confrontation". While a great track, not sure if it's worth a new version. Too many other great releases lately which I still gotta get. Too many scores, not enough money

Is Confrontation the film version? The first re-release that contained Confrontation was not the version as heard in the film.

Is Confrontation the film version? The first re-release that contained Confrontation was not the version as heard in the film. Well, the track on the CD is what Craig Safan recorded for the film....... But it's a MICHAEL MANN film.. So it was remixed and re-cut after scoring. Nuff said Ford A. Thaxton

Despite my fondness for Tangerine Dream and all things moody 80s synth film score, I'm familiar with neither Thief the film nor the film score. But these samples sound great -- especially "Confrontation" and that very Knockin' On Heaven's Door-esque "Beach Scene". I may just have to go in for this one. And hopefully this is a prelude to The Keep!

Highly recommend, especially for only $15. As for THE KEEP -- when pigs fly...that's when you can expect that out. Sorry. MV

And that's what I've heard about The Keep sadly, but still, gotta keep the dream alive!

Though not a fan of synth scores, I'm in for this one! Wow!

Very nice release from Perseverance. I already have it on LP though, without Confrontation. I also have the DVD. But I'm sure the CD liner notes are interesting, so I guess I should buy this! Also good to see that Esterhammer and Franke seem to still have contact, after their work together on Franke's own Sonic Images label in the 90s...
