So I was thinking of putting together a playlist consisting of montage scenes. Looking for suggestions. My definition for this project: Usually a lengthy piece of music that accompanies a sequence of events cut into a short period of time on film. For example the construction of a building or spaceship, a journey over long distances, an athlete in training, etc. (excluding songs)
My examples:
The Construction- Explorers Building The Barn- Witness Money Montage- All Dogs Go To Heaven In Training- An American Tail: Fievel Goes West
The one that popped into my head is the "Lost in New York" montage from "Delicious," by George Gershwin. He liked what he came up with for the sequence so much that he later turned the piece into his concert hall work "Second Rhapsody."

Come to think of it, Conti's "Gonna Fly Now" song cue ("Rocky" & "Rocky II") must be considered one of the standard-setting training montage pieces.
Randy Newman wrote a comic swing number for the losing streak montage in "The Natural." Here's a fan-edit of the scene emphasizing their favorite shot, I guess:
I think there was another cue for the winning streak later in the film.

LOL! I did a quick search in my iTunes library and came up with 110 (!) hits. A track titled training montage alone is on Rocky IV, Dreamer, Diggstown, SpaceCamp, The Next Karate Kid and *cough* supposed to be in the Highlander-score.
With inspiration for Rambo II (and therefore: Gremlins II), Rudy, Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves, Up and the opening for Commando!
By the way: I know we're excluding songs, but I stil would like a shout out for the great song montages of the eighties as in Real Genius (Chaz Jankel's Number One), Ghostbusters (Mick Smiley's Magic), and that Montage-fest called Top Gun (Danger Zone, Playing with the Boys and basically every frickin' scene!).
I don't remember the name of this cue, but it's on Volume 3 as well; 10:39 in: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HtA3T2NknOg (the ending on this cue, was changed in the episode editorially)
