Fave score for me would be CLEOPATRA - Alex North. Also great, HOW GREEN WAS MY VALLEY, SHOCK TREATMENT, PLANET OF and ESCAPE FROM THE PLANET OF THE APES and HELLO DOWN THERE.
Always thought that if James Horner was an actor, he'd be a brilliant Roddy in a Bio-Pic!
Not that Roddy had anything to do with any of the scores written for the films he was in.
However, am partial to "How Green Was My Valley" (Alfred Newman), "Cleopatra" (Alex North) and "Evil Under the Sun" (an adaptation of Cole Porter standards).
Although maybe not a big favourite I thought Roddy was very good in Five Card Stud(1968) and I think that the Maurice Jarre score deserves a release on CD.
I thought this was a thread based on his recent passing, but I see that he passed away in 1998.
Looking at his IMDB profile, I can really only think of one great score that is also a personal favourite among his films and that is of course PLANET OF THE APES.
Jerry Goldsmith's Planet of the Apes is fantastic, of course, and will likely remain my favorite score for a Roddy McDowall movie even if I ever get to hear every one ever done.
PLANET OF THE APES, of course. Next to that, probably CLEOPATRA, then HOW GREEN WAS MY VALLEY, and then LORD LOVE A DUCK? (The question mark is, I believe, part of the actual title.), then THE LEGEND OF HELL HOUSE, then......
And, if you think PLANET OF THE APES was the first time Roddy McDowall worked with the guy behind the makeup in my avatar, check this out (unfortunately only the first 9 minutes, 45 seconds).
