Not a huge deal... but I've noticed that 2 of my local FD stores have gotten new stock of the Varese CDs from the bounty 2 years back... wow 2 years? No new titles, but I'm now seeing titles that my local stores never stocked ( but others reported in their areas ), and now they're bearing $3 prices.

So if there were titles you could not find locally, it may be worth the trip again to see if your stores have some different titles.

The stuff they've had on the shelf all along is still at $4, but the titles "new" to my stores are priced at $3.

No luck here in the Phoenix, AZ area. Hit a couple of stores and all they have are $6 country/western and second-rate pop titles. Maybe they just haven't got their shipments yet or maybe they won't be getting any at all.
Anybody else find any of these besides in NC?

Weirdly enough, I stopped by my local FD last night and they had 30 restocked Varese CDs. Pretty funny. I thought this was over! They were priced at $3-$4 each. Tons left over, but this is what I picked up:

The 10th Kingdom - Anne Dudley
Hour of the Gun - Goldsmith
The Manchurian Candidate - Portman
Nim's Island - Doyle
Ice Age - Newman
All the King's Men - Horner
I know Who Killed Me - McNeely
1408 - Yared

The CDs are still hanging around, oddly enough. These days I'm actually managing a FD store and see them still stocked in various locations. My store doesn't have them and we can't order them ( although we can transfer store to store, but since I'd be the only one buying them I won't bother razz ) - we're at the mercy of the distributor - but they are still re-stocked in some locations at $3.

Family dollar is funny. Why do they call it family dollar when so many things they sell there is more then a Dollar. This comment has been said by everyone I ever knew who shopped there.

There's also Dollar General, which is also a discount store but not a "dollar store" .

I've never run into anyone confused by this.

There is a chain in the Midwest called DOLLAR TREE and everything is a dollar or less as it should be.In the big apple there are plenty of stores where they only charge a dollar for everything. Those stores are honest, no games with words.

Not kidding at all. Anybody from New York can tell you that. Nearly every neighborhood has a one dollar store. everything is just one dollar. On a strip where I used to live in the big apple I bought hundreds of video's and Dvd's for a dollar. FAMILY DOLLAR IS NO BARGAIN.

So any store that has "dollar" in its name is required to be a "dollar" store?

Can't wait to apply that logic the next time I shop at BJ's...

Answer 2: Hmmm....

That's not the point, it's all about the vibes of the customers. For decades so many stores which were thrifty stores charging a buck or so were called 99 cents stores or dollar stores. In my town to name a few DOLLAR GIANT, DOLLAR DOLLAR DOLLAR.DOLLAR DELIGHT, ETC ETC,For so many people this became a norm. Many people go in and then are disappointed whin it is not just a buck. That's not an opinion that is a first hand FACT.

LOL!

One literal interpretation for "Family Dollar" as in the 'family of dollars' could mean it include fives, tens, etc. Just as a crappy store-made "cherry pie" can literally mean there is only one cherry in it (if at all).

dan the man is quite correct about DOLLAR TREE. There is one of these in a strip mall off the Route 3 corridor near my apartment here in New Jersey and EVERYTHING in that store is one dollar. Bulk paper products, party supplies, stationary, a large selection of household cleaners, packs of batteries, housewares, and even frozen, boxed, and canned varieties of foods. All of the items priced at one dollar each. It's a fairly busy place. I notice things. It's ironic how you don't see too many junkers parked in the lot in front of that particular store. But you will see quite a few high end BMW's, Cadillac's, and Acura's.

We have Dollar Tree, Family Dollar, Dollar House and Dollar General. But Dollar Tree is the only store that everything is for $1.00. There are a few things that they charge a $1 for that you can get at Walmart for less.

Then please, feel free to boycott Family Dollar and it's $3/$4 (gasp!) Varese CDs and continue to enjoy your $1 Varese CDs at the true "dollar" stores.
