I'm a major fan of LG's passive 3D system. I love it. Every film I've seen is perfectly rendered, with no cross-talk, and bright, colorful images. HOUSE OF WAX is just remarkable. Anyone else a fan? What are your favorite discs?

I've been very impressed with my son's 42 inch Panasonic LED 3D set. My impression is that the well done 3D movies come across almost better than some theatre presentations as the set seems to bump the brightness to account for the glasses.
Even post-applied 3D films like JOHN CARTER and TITANIC come across beautifully on this set. I originally thought he was crazy to go in for a 3D set but I'm sold on it when I indulge myself with a 50 incher at some point in the future.

I haven't seen JOHN CARTER, but TITANIC's 3D conversion is superb.

Yes. A lot of comparison. I prefer the LG Passive, to every other brand and over Active. Proponents of Active say the picture quality is better; and, on paper it would be true. However, Active resulted in a overall poorer picture quality to my eyes, and some ghosting. Of the 15 films I've watched on my LG set, I've not seen one instance of ghosting. DIAL M FOR MURDER has a brief haloing issue, but that is inherent in the disc, and not a result of the television, or 3D cross-talk. The only drawback to my set is that the screen, while not glossy, is not matte, either. In 2D it's not an issue, at all. In 3D, if there is a light source reflecting off the screen (window, lamp), it can become distracting. At night, there is no window issue; and, during the day, I just pull down the shade on the side window. Otherwise, it's a great set.

Terrific, thanks for the info. I think LG makes pretty good stuff, remarkably good for the money compared to Sony for example. I really do like my full matte screen. I guess I will have to darken the room a bit more. That is a really nice looking set too. So do you use the Google functions? I have a Tivo box so I use that as my web interface with Netflix and such right now.

The Google function is fun. You can speak into the remote, and it will find whatever you say. The other day, my brother was over and I was demoing it and said "Patty Duke", and it changed the channel. THE PATTY DUKE SHOW just happened to be on. Then I said "The Trolley Song" and it went to Youtube and began playing a video of "The Trolley Song" from MEET ME IN ST. LOUIS. So, it's more than just Netflix and such.

47 or 50 would be fine. The one advantage that Active has over Passive, is that you can go really big on the picture, and you're fine, because it's using the shutters of the glasses to give the effect. On a Passive set, it's using the lines of resolution to do that. The bigger the set, I would think the more aware you become of the lines. However, I'm no expert on the subject. I used to think that you had to go much bigger for the 3D experience, and it's not true. I first saw the LG Passive, on a 42 inch model, and I was sold.

Watched HUGO over the weekend, and was blown away by both the story and the 3D. It's not flawless, as it could used a fairly healthy dose of editing, throughout. Still, it's a marvel of motion picture making.
