Actually I don't know if it's from BBC, only that it's British Television. If you've seen this 3-disc series from England, can you recommend it or is it a 'pass'? The actors listed on the description at Netflix are not familiar to me. But the seaside and cliffs locations sound intriguing. Thanks.

It's a solid show, with a interesting story, decent character writing and a nice mystery.
I kinda guess where things were going near the end though.
It's not a classic, but certainly worth while.
I saw the trailer of the US 'remake'. Not sure it's a great idea using the same director. It looks like a shot by shot remake.

Thank you Gentlemen on the recommendations. The photos of those cliffs are certain to contain some spectacular scenic backgrounds and intriguing storytelling. I've put the 3 discs in my Netflix queue. And, no, I did not know anything about a remake and I'll leave it at that.

“Broadchurch” is the best TV for years. Absolutely riveting from start to finish.
A fantastic cast shine in this atmospheric and stylish “Whodunnit”.
Filmed in West Bay, on Dorset’s Jurassic Coast, it looks fantastic.
Even if you guess who did it (as I did), it still keeps you watching because it is SO stylish and mesmerising. A wonderful score also adds to the atmosphere of the piece.
David Tennant is first class and Olivia Colman has won all the Best Actress awards for it.
DON”T miss this one.
I don’t understand why they felt the need to remake it for US audiences ???
CH-CD: This is magnificent 'entertainment'! I've just finished the first disc which comprises the first three episodes, but now I must wait for 4 days (!) to get the second disc. I have NOT as yet, figured out who murdered the boy, Danny. I knew I was going to enjoy this series from the very first minute of the first episode, before any person appeared or spoke - it was those cliffs that reached out to me! Olivia Colman (who I've never seen before is outstanding. And for the life of me, I couldn't figure out WHO was the actor who played Danny's Father. I didn't recognize the name, but I 'knew' that face, and the voice. Then finally it came to me, Andrew Buchan was the Barrister from 'GARROW'S LAW' from a couple of seasons back! This is all truly marvelous and I will NOT be watching any American remake!

I finished the 7 hours of this show the other evening. It really had me from the very beginning to it's very last frames of the last episode's end credits. At the end though, there was this 'banner' that read 'watch for Broadchurch series 2'. Anyone know when this may come out or is it currently in production in The U.K? Without a doubt, this was truly an event and it remains essential viewing! Why it was ignored by The Emmy Voters is beyond me.

Glad you liked it. I watched it, and pulled my wife in as she's a big Tennant fan. She doesn't like police procedurals, but she did like this. I thought David Bradley was very good in this, also.

Since I have never even seen one second of any 'Doctor Who', I didn't know who David Tennant was until it was mentioned in the extras. Mr. Tenant is supposed to be in THE REMAKE of 'Broadchurch' for 'Fox' (boo, hiss!). I forget what role he'll play, but I would think he'd not want to do it all over again, unless...he's playing one of the OTHER characters this time? Fox? Really? As to the actor David Bradley, I cannot think of another character in the film that I felt more sympathy and empathy with, than Mr. Bradley's news-agent-shopkeeper. He had his own hidden secrets and his own surprising twists to those secrets. For NO amount of money would I ever think of watching The American re-make.

Has there ever been a precedent set were an actor starred in the sequel and remake versions of a series at the same time?
Bradley was also very good playing William Hartnell, the first actor to play Doctor Who, in Doctor Who: An Adventure in Space And Time. He's currently in The Strain, playing the Van Helsing-like vampire hunter.

He’s a terrific and versatile actor and one of my favourites. I always think it’s a sign of a good actor when they can completely eradicate their native accent. Tennant, who is a Scot, can do that. (See Dr Who !)
Andrew Buchan is another splendid actor, who is never short of work. He’s just finished a TV drama about the Great Fire of London (1666), which they are trailing here now.
I believe they have just finished, (or are about to finish?) the second series. Tennant,Colman,Buchan, Whitaker & Darvill are in it again.
No further clues as to what the plot will involve, but, you can bet it will be a good one.

Well, Dave ....we do have Netflix, but I don’t use it myself. I don’t have much interest in most modern movies. I tend to buy the movies that I do like .....mostly vintage, with a few modern on DVD or Blu-Ray. Same goes for TV series. There are now so many movies/TV shows available on Catch Up,You Tube, iplayer, etc that there just aren’t enough hours in the day !
You may be right about the accent thing ....although, “Broadchurch” was set in Dorset...a county that does have a distinct accent...but it’s a soft “burr” one, and not difficult to understand. As you say, you didn’t have any trouble with it. David Tennant is a Scot but there again, his accent is not difficult .
On the other hand, the Cornish accent (two counties further along to the left) can sometimes be difficult for “outsiders”
The BBC recently did an adaptation of Daphne du Maurier’s “Jamaica Inn” ( which is set in Cornwall), and this did receive a barage of complaints from viewers who couldn’t understand much of the dialogue. I think the main reason for this was the sound recording, which was very low and muffled.
It had an “Arty-Farty” director who wanted “Realism”, which in his case meant mumbling, scenes shot in near darkness and a general feeling of Grunge!
I didn’t even start on this one. the trailers were more than enough !
I don’t think English audiences have trouble with American accents because we are brought up on American movies from an early age, so it’s quite natural to us.
The problem we DO have is..again....”realistically” (ie badly!) recorded sound, with muffled dialogue.
Bring back the 1940’s to 60’s !

I'd definitely recommend this. Interesting, complex narrative that keeps you hooked. Well acted, beautiful Dorset locations. I've visited West Bay where some of it was shot and it is a gorgeous beach.
