We can only hope it's true.

I'd also like this to be true... without the CG "enhancements", but still cleaned up in terms of restoration, removal of green screen matte lines, etc.

I refuse to buy the existing BluRays. I won't buy these titles again unless they are the original theatrical cuts. (which I have on DVD) Though I support the idea of cleaning them up.

Same here, would be great if they FINALLY get released unaltered in decent high def. Way to go, Disney!

If it is true I hope they take their time and do it right. I'll buy them.

The only thing surprising is that people are surprised that Disney wants more money.

Ah hell I'll probably end up buying them.

But to be honest, a lot ( but not quite all ) of the Special Edition effects were fine with me.

The new effects shots during the Death Star attack were great, with the X Wings and Tie Fighters in battle - perfect.

The redone interiors of Cloud City in Empire really opened up the sets and made it look more like an actually populated mining city.

Jabba...not so much.

But it is kinda sad that it feels like Disney has "rescued" Star Wars from the evil clutches of the man who created the whole damn thing big grin

Disney is meticulous with their restorations so I expect they would.

I find it ironic that Lucas, who pretty much started the movie merchandising business, flatly refused to let the original cuts have any prominence, effectively denying their existence despite there being an obvious market for them, but it comes down to Disney, with its eyes undoubtedly on the money, to be the ones to (potentially) do their high definition release. I'll be glad if they do though.

Great news! I'll likely buy as well, contingent on the two most important points:
1.) Han shoots first.
2.) Star Wars

big grin

Really? Personally I want all the original unadulterated version, no FX fixes or anything. I would want the negative restored of course but that is the extent of the tinkering. If they issue a blu ray that simply is a glowing bran after of the original as it was in '77 then I'll buy it without hesitation.

Of course, I'd be rally happy if the crawl dispensed with the New Hope sub title too!

Dang-it, guys! Am I the only one around here that remembers that Greedo never shot at all?
The ONLY shot was Solo's. That's what made it so cool! big grin

Looks like this has been shot down now. The article does make sense.

Too bad.

I support removing matte lines. Though I like the vaseline effect underneath the Landspeeder. Always thought it looked like an anti gravity wave.

I won't rest until we get the ORIGINAL, UNALTERED version as-filmed, without any special effects, where you just see a lot of blue screens, and wheels on the landspeeders, and wires on the spaceships.

The article is click-bait rubbish, written on a fan website. It would be like giving a weather report while standing at a urinal and saying its raining because you're getting piss on yourself.

Moreover, its also incorrect: FOX only owns Episode IV. ESB and all the films after are under Lucasfilm property (Oh how FOX laughed when Lucas bought up all the merchandise and sequels before Episode IV was released...) which is now Disney.

And though Disney will have to pay a LOT for it - everyone wins. Disney gets some kind of license deal to release Episode IV and FOX gets a huge paycheck from the mouse and people get their original edit blurays.

The idea that this can't happen is absurd. Its the biggest movie franchise of all time. Why would companies not want your money?

That would be the "unspecial edition", which will be released next after the ORIGINAL unaltered trilogy.

All joking aside, it's not as if I think the special editions are that bad, I just want to see these movies as I remember seeing them on vhs. Star Wars is meant to age, it doesn't need to be repainted every two decades.

I'll believe it when I see it.

...which I really hope happens. Until then, I'll stick with the 2006 "bonus discs".
