The fifth thread devoted to the female guests of a classic 60s TV show now begins! "Burke's Law" (1963-1965), a lighthearted mystery show starring Gene Barry as millionaire police Captain Amos Burke, was the first TV show to give us a long list of high-profile guest stars in every episode for us to consider as murder suspects. The show was produced by Aaron Spelling, who of course would repeat the all-star guest cast formula in "Love Boat" and "Fantasy Island", and the "Burke's Law" format to murder mystery can also be seen in later shows like "Murder She Wrote" and "Diagnosis Murder." With the first 16 episodes just released on DVD, this is a good time to start a thread, going from the beginning with episode #1, "Who Killed Holly Howard?" A fashion supermodel has been found killed, and Captain Burke has among his suspects, William Bendix, Sir Cedric Hardwicke, Bruce Cabot, and rather appropriately, Suzy Parker, who was probably the first person to ever be dubbed "supermodel" in her high profile fashion and cosmetics ads in the 1950s. Suzy's supermodel fame won her a brief film career, but she was mostly in over her head when given big roles in "Kiss Them For Me" and "The Best Of Everything". In a TV episode like this, or in the Twilight Zone episode "Number 12 Looks Just Like You", she was used to much better effect. Suzy later married actor Bradford Dillman and then retired from acting and modeling. She died in 2003 at age 70.

If this show is peppered with all these guest stars and more, you've convinced me - it's a buy.

I've never seen an episode of this show. Most of the 60's shows I'm familiar with had reruns in the 70's, when I was a kid, but this one? Never. Looks entertaining. I don't remember this ever popping up locally in syndication either, although I have a vague memory of it playing in prime time because my parents watched it. I'm looking forward to this one.

On to episode #4, "Who Killed Harris Crown?", where the victim has met a horrible death from a sabotaged car, drained of brake fluid. Suspects in addition to Joan Blondell, Don Rickles, and a couple other gents, include the wife, who is not grieving too much, Juliet Prowse. And then there's Barbara Eden, two years before her "I Dream Of Jeannie" fame began.
