If I go see TRON: LEGACY, I will be searching out a 2-D presentation. The extra 3 bucks hasn't been worth it in, let's see.... AVATAR, TOY STORY 3, CORALINE.
Nope. If it was shot in 3D I'm happy to see it that way. I'm not impressed by the idea of conversions though; PIRANHA's 3D was terrible and simply didn't work. DEATHLY HALLOWS PART 2 should hopefully be available in 2D as well.
I have zero interest in a 2D film converted to 3D, and I don't think directors have yet learned to make the most of 3D technologies, and I don't think that theaters have yet figured out how to optimize the 3D experience. I've yet to see a 3D movie that convinced me it was worth seeing in 3D.
You know, David - I may (and that's a BIG "may") opt for a new 3D Plasma in the near future, but this whole 3D craze for recent movies really escapes me........don't know why, but the whole thing just doesn't interest me in the least......Perhaps I had my fill of the stuff in the sixties growing up.....( now if they ever advance the technology enough to do away with the darn glasses.......)
AVATAR was perfect and IMO the only film that truly knew how to do it. Unfortunately, however, the other films that tried the same in its wake went into the same old "gimmick" trap that has plagued the technology for decades.
I'm more than happy to watch them if shot in 3D. I just hope more and more studios will realize that it is important to advertise when you did shoot it in 3D so people know.
It has been for most of the time since it's been around (the 50's?), true, but there are some notable exceptions that go beyond mere gimmickry. I haven't given up on it just yet. People just need to learn how to use it. Take classes with Cameron or whatever. Or just leave it.
I'm waiting for glasses-free 3-D holography before I bite. I can't wait to step up, reach out and bitch slap Lindsay Lohan, Paris Hilton and any number of other annoying celebrities I'm sick of hearing about. Now THAT would be 3-D with a high quotient of cathartic value!

I'm not really sold on [[3D]] films even though I don't think I've actually ever seen one. Was going to see Avatar with my father at a multiplex but it was sold out all the time so, missed it. Someone who saw the film in [[3D]] said that everything looked kind of grey. But if you want to talk stereograms as in Magic Eye . . . now you're talking.

Coraline looked MAGNIFICENT in 3D. Even saw it twice in theaters to savor it.
I am pretty much in the camp that the only 3-D film I wish to pay and see in the theatre are those that are actually shot using 3D cameras, like Avatar and Tron Legacy. Other than that, not gonna waste my time.
The only 3D film i've ever seen was Metalstorm: The Destruction of Jared-Syn at the pictures about 27 years ago. I can still remember the fear and hiding my face as mutants flew towards the screen. I'll never wear 3D glasses again.
