Hmm. Can't say I have a reaction on either side of the positive/negative scale. Just kinda...neutral.

Looks... like I need to see more. Visually sumptuous as one would expect from director Verbinski* and the talents behind the camera. But this teaser is poorly edited, with an absurd musical choice.

* I'll go on the limb and defend Gore Verbinski from the likes of you rotters. The man has made three great films, IMHO: Mouse Hunt, The Ring, and Rango. And his Pirates of the Caribbean movies weren't too shabby for popcorn fare (he helped make pirates cool again!).

I love the first Pirates movie but the 2nd and 3rd are terrible movies. Apart from being over long and badly written (all those tiny Jack Sparrows? And those crabs? Please) the worst thing is how much they changed Captain Jack's character. In the first movie he was a hero pretending to be a buffoon, whereas in the sequels he was a buffoon pretending to be a hero.

Um ... I'm left neutral as well. Was certainly better than I dared hope, yet it didn't excited me and make me think I must see it.

Guess ill need to wait for the next trailer.

Saw the trailer on the Tonight Show last night, and it did nothing for me. It certainly doesn't evoke any of the mystique of the Lone Ranger. Take away the last few shots and that could have been the trailer for any large-scale action/adventure set in the West. On the Tonight Show, co-star Armie Hammer described the film as a comedy-drama with a buddy movie inside of it.

Helena Bonham Carter. AGAIN.

Jesus Christ, I need a drink.

Looks like another desaturated special, a film I know I won't be seeing.

Oh dear. Thats what they said about The Green Hornet and look how that turned out. An abortion of a great concept (and coincidentally Hornet and Ranger share the same creator and the characters are actually related).

I cannot stand that look either. And I actually don't know anyone personally who does.

The likes of Janusz Kaminski seem to have their followers here but personally I think Kaminski is the worst offender for this sort of washed out look and consider his work to be terrible. Everything he shoots looks like the film can spilled open on the way to Kodak.

Trailer didn't grab me. I always find it funny on trailers how, well they are short anyway 2-3 minutes most of them and yet they make sure the first several several seconds are for the film logos and companies, you would think if they are selling the movie basically here they'd devote more time to the movie. That always chuckled me when some trailers do that. More times devoted to make sure you know each company name then the movie, lol razz

Well one way or another this is going to be a train wreck.

It looks like another overblown spectacle with a particularly wimpish-looking Lone Ranger. And what's with the dude outfit?? And the whores?

If you don't like the way a franchise was done, make your own, don't just kick over the table.

I'm up to August of 1943 going through the entire run of the radio series. Much better than the kid-oriented tv show.

Well, I'll see it when it comes out. Keeping my fingers crossed.

Posted elsewhere today, but since this thread opened up...from the original WXYZ music library discs:

The DP is Bojan Bazelli. A quick look at his credits (especially recently) shows he's more than capable of producing a colorful, rich-looking film. I wouldn't point a finger at him, I'd point it at Gore Verbinski.

2012 Rock of Ages
2010 Burlesque
2010 The Sorcerer's Apprentice
2009 G-Force
2007 Hairspray
2005 Mr. & Mrs. Smith
2002 The Ring
1998 Dangerous Beauty
1994 Surviving the Game
1993 Sugar Hill
1993 Kalifornia
1993 Body Snatchers
1993 Boxing Helena

Yeah, it's probably been shot beautifully, but once Gore has had a go in the DI grade this is what you get. The second & third Pirates films must have cost a fortune, but ended up looking like they'd been shot on a cell phone! But I don't care, it's not a film I fancy seeing.
