It's supposed to be on sale, but the listing hasn't been there all day.

The link was good at around 7:30am EST today...the set was listed for $99.99!!!! I figured it would be around all day but now it says due to high demand the "Gold Price" has sold out. I wasn't planning on buying the blu-ray set, but that was a too good a price to pass up. I'm kicking myself for not doing it this morning when I first saw it.

Now's it's back listed at $349.99.

Wow!! The REGULAR price for this on Amazon UK is over $200 cheaper! (At today's exchange rate).

You know, I get that it was selling a ridiculous amount and all... but to say it was "sold out" is just such crap. They don't sell out, they re-stock.

Oh well, never expected Amazon to be honest about something like this.

Neil: That's verrrrrrrrrrrry tempting, and not because I want all the Bond movies but because I'd like to have all of Sean Connery's, and if I were to buy them separately, I'd probably come close to paying $100 for them on Blu-ray. I just put it in my Amazon shopping cart, but have gone sooooooooo crazy buying stuff this week that I hate to stay on that roll! Oh dear -- what do I do? Knowing me, I'm probably going to do it!

Follow-Up, and I bought it! Just couldn't resist, since, as I wrote, I've been wanting the Connery Bonds on Blu-ray anyway. Thanks for the heads up, Neil, because I would have been kicking myself if I had seen this tomorrow after they've closed the sale!

I'm struggling with it myself. Tempting, but I already own them all on DVD. Can't decide if a blu-ray upgrade is necessary.

You have to take into account how many times you'll actually watch them. I find that the free time just isn't there.

That is an EXCELLENT point. I already find that I don't make time to watch the DVDs. I still haven't seen all five Apes movies I bought on BR last year.

ZapBrannigan: Re: "You have to take into account how many times you'll actually watch them. I find that the free time just isn't there."

I totally agree with Neil that that is an excellent point. I ask myself the same question: "How many times are you going to watch it?" when I consider ordering something, especially something I many already have on DVD. I asked it when I bought the 15 Hitchcock movie set on Blu-ray, and asked myself Friday when I was considering buying the big Bond 50 set. In both cases I decided that there were enough movies included that I wanted that it justified the expense. But I'm retired now and will be able to repeatedly re-watch movies less and less, and it has become a valid and very important point. Am I buying these for me … or for that library where I want to leave them when I'm gone? [Note: Received this attractive set on 12-2-13, and it would have been my first Amazon Sunday delivery if I had been home all day yesterday.]

And this beautiful set continues to sit among all my other elaborate boxed sets of Blu-rays … but at least it's handy should I have time to watch more of these films!

No such sale in the UK, but Amazon have all the single Blu-ray releases in their two for ten pounds offer, which suits me as there's a lot of Bond films I'm not that keen on.

CinemaScope: Agree -- I have no interest in those with Roger Moore, which were SO tongue in cheek that they were more comedy than thriller. But, as I wrote elsewhere, it was cheaper to buy the marked down Bond 50 than the Connerys separately, which were the ones I most wanted.

The difference between the TND dvd and bluray is little short of startling.

TG:

Which was what made me glad that I had bought the big set! On my 55" Samsung widescreen with my large Klipsch towers, they look great, and it's startling to see what they had to start with when they began restoring some of the oldest films in the series.

Not that any of you care, but I kept waffling back and forth, ordered it and cancelled it three times that day it was on sale. Finally decided not to bother.

Meanwhile, my wife went ahead and ordered it that day, and gave it to me for Christmas.
