It appears that I'm in the minority of those here at the FSM board who love Skyfall. Oddly enough, y'all here at this site are the ONLY folks I know who don't like the film. I have a large assortment of moviegoing friends, and while they hardly ever agree on anything, there wasn't one who didn't see Skyfall at least twice. That includes myself. The vote is "Aye!"

Mendes returning is great news. Probably means another Newman Bond score which is excellent.

I think SKYFALL is an ace Bond film, so I would feel OK with Mendes returning. But I'm still iffy about the trend of having current hot directors putting their own stamp on the franchise. I think of Bond as producers' films, not as a place for auteurist critics to find their favorite helmer's touches. Also, something that has been bugging me since last fall. Bérénice Marlohe is a stunningly beautiful young woman. Why does she always have heavily caked raccoon eye makeup in all her publicity photos with the other cast and crew members? Drives me up the wall.

Always keeping foremost in foundational mind none of this is actually Official. As for whatever Mr. Mendes may have yakked about before his involvement sorta makes his continuing connection highly irrelevant, no? Then again, directors are hardly known for being humble about their Hubris ...

I was being a bit impish. Truthfully, I do not hate Skyfall. I reserve that honor for Quantum Of Solace and Live and Let Die. But I do find it a badly written movie that will not stand the test of time. The film has beautiful cinematography (deserved the award), and the locations are breath taking. Javier is a delight, and it's always a blast seeing Albert Finney in a film. However, the endless logic issues in the story just robbed it of any joy for me. The nonsense with Bond being sniped off the train. Bond standing by and letting another sniper take out a man in another building without finding out who was being shot, or trying to stop him, only to see the shooter killed moments later anyway. Silva constantly being refereed to as some sort of devil on earth, but in the end he is just some guy seeking revenge. Seriously, there have been much darker villains than Silva. Guess his missing teeth make him extra spooky. In the end, I wish to take no one else's enjoyment away. Couldn't anyway. We all love what we love and that's that. But I am growing tired of this, "how can you hate Skyfall" bull. It reminds me of that gag on Seinfeld where Elaine is ostracized for hating The English Patient. Sorry, but I do not think it is a good movie. It's not he worst to be sure, but not even close to the greatest. If Sam returns, I'd be cool with it. But could we just have an actual James Bond adventure this time and save the pretentious nonsense for writers who can actually write that way.
