All six episodes. big grin

Mill Creek Entertainment is bowing on October 15th a 2-DVD release of Space Rangers - The Complete Sci-Fi Cult Classic TV Series (wow, THAT'S a mouthful, right!?). Priced at a mere $9.98 SRP, this show ran on CBS in 1993 for just 6 episodes. If you caught it, you'll want to relive it, and if you missed it, then you'll want to check it out.

It's a horrible show, IMO (I can't remember if I stuck with it or if I jumped off after a few episodes) -- but it's notable for having a Hans Zimmer theme, his only real work in 'space sci fi'.

This show was so hideous, but I loved it. Two episodes, if I recall, weren't shown during the original airing in the US. The CGI effects were low grade video game quality even at the time and the acting was below par with the exception of Linda Hunt and Gottfried John. What I did love about it was the "blue collar" aspect of space life. The unions and overtime, budget issues, and so on. If this were syndicated instead of on the CBS network, it probably would have run a full season at least. It was no cheesier than any of the Sam Raimi produced shows.

I remember reading an interview with Linda Hunt where she told the producers she couldn't understand why they wanted her for this series, but was happy to do it. She was excellent and her gravitas added a lot, like hiring Richard Basehart for Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea (funny they're both short).

Don't forget Lifepod, another Zimmer theme from a sci-fi show, from the same year.

Would have loved a soundtrack from Space Rangers, of the Zimmer/Mancina/John Van Tongeren material.
