Would love to see a top spec 3-D conversion of 2001: A Space Odyssey.
The star-gate sequence alone would be worth it, but to see those majestic shots of the various craft would be tremendous!

The original "Star Wars". I heard it was going to be done, but got put on the back burner due to the Lucasfilm/Disney deal....
Later, perhaps. They do now have two of the six done - Star Wars - Episode II: Attack of the Clones was completed, but the general theatrical release planned for this fall was shelved; however, it was shown as a convention exclusive treat at this year's Star Wars Celebration Europe back in July. Star Wars - Episode III: Revenge of the Sith was going to be released just a month or so after Episode II (the pre-Disney-buyout plan would have had it coming out this month, actually), so presumably a great deal of the work had been done already (though I'm guessing it wasn't completed yet if it wasn't shown at the convention alongside Episode II).
I think it's pretty much certain the new trilogy and the "side" movies will be presented in 3d. With I, II and VII through IX plus several spinoffs all in 3d, and work already done on III, it seems likely they'd go ahead and finish them all off sometime - but who knows when?

"The Rocky Horror Picture Show", "Grease" and "The Sound of Music" would be fun. (Do they do musicals in 3-D?)
THE WIZARD OF OZ is a musical.
I think many of the older films would make for great 3D conversions, mostly, because older films aren't plagued with a billion edits, the way films are annoyingly made, today. The main reason people who hate 3D complain about it, is because just as their eyes are adjusting, the shot changes.

I think many of the older films would make for great 3D conversions, mostly, because older films aren't plagued with a billion edits, the way films are annoyingly made, today. The main reason people who hate 3D complain about it, is because just as their eyes are adjusting, the shot changes.
That's a very interesting, and probably quite accurate, observation.
The assembling of the two slightly different images to make a coherent image with depth is also a function of the brain, so it may also be likely that the constant barrage of new and often unrelated images caused by the film cutting are some of the primary causes of headaches which we've previously always attributed to the glasses, or the eyes, or the projection.
In theory, I suppose Hitchcock's ROPE would be the ideal old film to stereo-ize, as it most closely follows the pattern of uninterrupted, flowing and continuous vision we experience with our eyes---with no visual edits of the incoming information.
