Because I'm such an artsy snob, genre films rarely make my top 5, let alone the #1 spot. But Star Wars (it will always be plain "Star Wars" to me. "A New Hope" was added three years later.) is such a perfect, super-exhilarating adventure movie that I couldn't deny it the honor. 1. Star Wars (Lucas) 2. Sorcerer (Friedkin) 3. Close Encounters of the Third Kind (Spielberg) 4. Annie Hall (Allen) 5. The American Friend (Wenders) 6. The Man Who Loved Women (Truffaut) 7. Valentino (Russell) 8. The Ascent (Shepitko) 9. The Late Show (Benton) 10. Equus (Lumet) also good: 3 Women, The Report, Rollercoaster, The Devil Probably, The Serpent's Egg, Islands in the Stream, The Spy Who Loved Me, The Turning Point, The Goodbye Girl, Semi-Tough, Cross of Iron, Jabberwocky, That Obscure Object of Desire, Fraternity Row, New York New York, Suspiria, Audrey Rose. still need to see: Man on the Roof, Black Sunday, The Perfumed Nightmare, Peppermint Soda, The Getting of Wisdom, Padre Padrone, The World's Greatest Lover. What are some of your faves of 1977?

Saw a hell of a lot of movies I detested in 1977. Off the top of my head, I only remember liking: SUSPIRIA ROLLERCOASTER TELEFON SINBAD AND THE EYE OF THE TIGER

Funny, i clicked on this thread fully expecting you to leave out STAR WARS from your list , for the reasons you yourself stated LOL! This doesn't redeem you, but it adds some legitimacy, i said SOME, to your opinions brm

Angelillo, is LA DENTELLIERE the one known as "The Lacemaker" in English? That's one I've been intrigued with.
