I have recently viewed several of the PERRY MASON MYSTERY MOVIES revival.
Produced and scored by COLUMBO vets Dean Hargrove & DIck DeBenidictis, I had high hopes.

It sucks!
Big time!

I should have known better; exec produced by Fred "Supertrain" Silverman
brm

Would like to see it again. I saw a few episodes on Superchannel back in the 80s.
I love that innocent side of the late 70s vibe that also was in "Buck Rogers" and "CHiPs".

I know how you feel, too. I had such high hopes for something too once, back in 1970, when my innocent self, almost eleven years old went Beneath the Planet of the Apes!

Sucks! Big time! If only I knew the terrible fate that awaited me Beneath the Planet of the Apes, for just four years later came something almost as bad...

The Planet of the Apes TV series!

but wait.... I'm just getting started.

Announces 'The 12th Season, Vol. 1' and 'Vol. 2'
A pair of 4-DVD sets will be out in late September, with color episodes!

This Gunsmoke news may also be good for Bonanza fan--meaning me--but in general any news of Gunsmoke or vintage westerns is cause for celebrations for the few of us alive who like this stuff:

Best in the West. For the first time in full-color, Gunsmoke Season 12, Volume 1 rides strong in an epic 4-disc, 15-episode collection. Three-time Emmy Award nominee James Arness stars as the incomparable Marshal Matt Dillon, sworn to protect and serve the good people of Dodge City. Faithfully by his side are reliable medic Doc Adams (Emmy winner Milburn Stone), strong-willed saloon keeper Miss Kitty (Emmy-nominee Amanda Blake) and trustworthy Deputy Festus Haggen (Ken Curtis). Together, they take on the likes of gold-digging bandits, bloodthirsty gunslingers and an underhanded boxing champ. Expanding on a trailblazing frontier legacy, this beloved series continues to breathe new life into the Old West.

Then, break Out the Big Guns. Saddle up for Gunsmoke Season 12, Volume 2 in full-color for all 14 action-packed episodes.

Legendary Marshal Matt Dillon (three-time Emmy Award nominee James Arness) is hell-bent on justice as he tames the wild ways of the Old West. Helping him corral the frontier action are loyal Doc Adams (Emmy winner Milburn Stone), sexy saloon proprietress Miss Kitty (Emmy-nominee Amanda Blake) and lovable Deputy Festus Haggen (Ken Curtis). Wrapping up an explosive season, the legendary lawman tangles with a new slate of outlaws, including troublemaking drovers, a vigilante rancher and bomb-making bank robbers. In this classic 4-disc collection, television's widely-loved western continues its trailblazing tradition.

Today, CBS Home Entertainment and Paramount Home Media Distribution verified our previous report with their announcement that September 20th will see the DVD releases of both Gunsmoke - The 12th Season, Vol. 1 and Gunsmoke - The 12th Season, Vol. 2. Each will be a 4-DVD set, with 15 color hour-long episodes in the first volume and 14 more in the second. Here's the package art for these long-awaited releases:

Sorry if this has been brought up before, but does anyone know anything about the complete series of "The Monkees" being released on Blu-Ray by Rhino? (I thought this would be the best place to ask, rather than start a whole new thread and risk angering people.)

As far as I know it's available for order from the Rhino website. Pricey, though..... $200.00! Limited to 5000 copies.

OUCH, indeed! I said, PASS!

Perhaps eventually a less elaborate package of just the discs will come out and it'll be around $50 to $100.

I agree that those hour-long Gunsmoke's are like watching paint dry. A high talk-to-action ratio. I've slowly been acquiring the "Lawman" seasons. It took awhile for Warners to release "Lawman" while they worked their way through most of their one-hour westerns. I hope they eventually get around to releasing "Colt .45."

Looking at his right hand draw at t=0:21, I'm surprised he made it through the pilot.

I'll take Gunsmoke, even the episodes with Thad in them, over that conveyer belt WB bilge, though I guess if one came of age during that time it might hold a degree of nostalgia.

I was in Wal-Mart over the weekend and a DVD collection caught my eye that I wasn't aware of, a complete series, four disc set of "The Loner" starring Lloyd Bridges. I've had some of the Jerry Goldsmith music for the show on CD since I bought FSM's STAGECOACH way back when, but I'd never seen the show. I $14.95 I just had to buy it. I'm only four episodes in, but it's a well-produced show. Rod Serling's writing isn't the greatest, but it's not as dull as so many other westerns series are, and Lloyd Bridges was sure in fit shape back then.

I appreciate that the show is just a half-hour, something I like about McQueen's "Wanted: Dead or Alive." Very little fat on these episodes. They get to the point quickly.

Only the first episode was scored by Goldsmith, I believe. Nelsen Riddle has done two out of the four I've watched so far. Man, that guy seems to have scored most every show in the mid-sixties.

Of course, for me, the actors in them is what's most interesting. A pre-"Hawaii Five-O" Jack Lord was in the second episode, and his character's wife was played by Joan Freeman. Anybody else remember Joan Freeman? Man, she was attractive.

I liked Bat Masterson, the few episodes I saw, anyway. I also liked The Westerner (1960), which had episodes written and directed by Sam Peckinpah.

I only knew about Lawman from the Brooks and Marsh TV series book, and of course Peter Brown appeared in many a '65-'75 tv series, including "Mission: Impossible."

Because it featured Steven Seagal and Burt Lancaster.

Why do you recommend season 1?
What is the identity and the strong point of the series?
