I'll readily accept what McQuarrie says as to why Kraemer didn't score the film over what some cynical FSMer opines.

Unfortunately the cynical stories being traded around here are true.

Kraemer wasn’t asked back due to post-production disagreements on the last film.

The “new direction” story the director is spinning is him being diplomatic.

If they're true, prove it.

Both reasons sound fine and reasonable to me.

Understand your skepticism, but suffice it to say I’ve heard it from someone directly involved.

Not a film score fanatic but someone brought this behind the scenes drama to my attention. I find it fascinating that despite hiring a different composer, cinematographer, production designer, and costume designer, only the film score community has made any noise. I see a lot of false accusations being thrown around. I hope people are aware the film business is all about relationships and this shit-flinging might worsen their relationship to the point where they might never work together again.

It’s Chris McQuarrie.

Have you been on a costume design community board recently? They're foaming at the mouth and throwing Molotov cocktails. If you think we're bad you should take a peek on one of their boards. Those people are freaks.

Michael Giacchino did two scores.. so I don't buy that Mission tradition.

I love Hans Zimmer's MI:2 score because of that heavy metal vibe that is unique.

My best bet is Lorne Balfe's score will be the same way he treated Terminator Genisys score, provide a score based on familiar territory with his own RCP influenced sound palette.

I would have wanted Joe Kraemer to return because his sound is so lively and modern.

Giacchino's recordings sounded so dry and flat.

The best sounding recordings were the Danny Elfman and Joe Kraemer scores.

To be fair, it's only a subset of the community. IMO Kev McGann and KeoNato are actively making the situation worse for Kraemer.

It has been a while since I have seen a fired up thread.

I have been reading FSM for years but now I am fired up too.

I want a Kraemer score because to me he did what David Arnold did for Bond with Tomorrow Never Dies.

And for the record: I don't think Balfe is a good composer. His music is repetitive and is generally a flaccid imitation of Zimmer's music.

Edit: I agree with lossless. Zimmer's score was the most idiosyncratic while Elfman and Kraemer had the best recordings.

Haha. I'll tell ya something.
If McQuarrie and Kraemer's working relationship is THAT fragile that it may not survive two joke posts on a niche, obscure film music website, it's got about as much chance of surviving as Lorne Balfe's score being the best in the MI film series.

The heck did I do? I’m just stating what I know from someone who is involved in the process.

I think you’re overestimating the influence I have over Joe Kraemer’s career...

And that anybody with influence is:

1. Reading this board and this post and made it this far in.

2. Gives a crap.

Could we all just wait and listen to the score before criticizing it?

Could we? We absolutely could.

But Balfe also has a body of work we can look to and form an opinion on.

At a certain point giving someone the benefit of the doubt is just a waste of time.

Hearing the score within the context of movie before praising or putting it down is a great idea, WillGold...Looking at opinions on a score before we've heard a note has never made a lot of sense to me.

I give Balfe "benefit of the doubt" because I've heard one or two or more very unappealing scores from Goldsmith. Those scores fit the movies but I didn't like them at all. Yet, Goldsmith is one of my favorites.
