A capsule description of IL DEMONIO's music:
Sustained organ chords, at times accompanied by concert-quality percussion techniques, comprise the predominantly ominous atmosphere - at other times a sympathetic theme is played by woodwinds.
Some scenes have a musique concrete feel, though I'm not certain if these sounds are produced by actual electronics or acoustic sounds manipulated via tape. This is based upon watching the film without the benefit of an album, which one can do in YouTube:

For the ecclesiastic portions, Piccioni adds orthodox (even neo-classical) brass to the organ, which play in a standard Churchly manner.
In comparison with other Piccioni favorites of mine, IL DEMONIO's aural fabric is cut from the similar cloths of SALVATORE GIULIANO, LO STRANIERO & IL MONACO.
The low-register pitch modulations from SALVATORE GIULIANO are revisited within IL DEMONIO with a greater diversity of material. The ecclesiastical pieces, though, stand alone in contrast to dissonance, whereas in IL MONACO, Piccioni combined both elements fluidly.
The overall hypnotic sound textures also forecast Piccioni's LO STRANIERO opus.
