If this were Facebook,

I'd post a photo

Of this delicious kielbasa

With sauteed red bell peppers,

Onions and garlic,

Red beans and rice.

Dijon and yellow mustards

On the side,

For your dipping pleasure

And mine.

But it isn't,

So I won't.

I'm more of a limericist to be honest...

Strapped to this table I lie,
A laser-beam skimming my thigh.
I won’t talk, but – Oh!
Goldfinger says, “No,
Mister Bond, I expect you to die!”

or

What a wonderful statesman is Kim,
So handsome, so wise, and so slim.
So fair and so witty
(With hair that’s so pretty)
Now what other leader’s like him?

Summer sunset

summer sunsets before the night
are wonderfully long and cool.
the long day has ended
I kiss my little ones goodnight
then walk out on my porch.

summer sunset before night
are a mix of sun and stars
The back door opens
my wife hands me a cup of coffee and piece pie.
she sits beside me. With hand holding mine.

summer sunset before night.
the night now is in full bloom
an orange and yellow haze is all that is left of the day.
the night chill now imposes on us.
we get up and close the door, for now, the night rules the sky.

summer sunset before night
we look in the rooms to check our little angels faces
we look into our souls and embrace.

summer sunset before night
is small time spent in time and space

“Familiarity Breeds Contempt,”

so never get too close.
The pedestals you and I
perch on, elevation for admiration
of our best presentations,
are not comfortable thrones.
They wobble at a whine
or momentary erosion of control,
our paunches ungirded, sagging, naked.
We quickly snatch the stones
of our slippage, placing them
firmly in our tongues,
smooth away wrinkles
with shamed hands,
and regain precious images,
fool’s gold from a
chink glimpsed in our
perfectly distorted mirrors.

But who wants to be grounded
on a plain stool?
What we cherish in the other
is all we wish to be.
Still I quake at your
inevitable discovery.
You can’t spend the
silver coins generously
proffered by moonbeam
reflections on lakes
nor quench your thirst
drinking from my mirage.

Thank you, TG. It is about time we get a new Clerihew from you. You introduced that form.

And we had a few who dropped one or two poems into this thread, and I hope they return soon.

A Clerihew for Bill.

Bill Carson “took the road less traveled by”
and drove in to a British pig sty.
Pretty farmer’s daughter was not too smart
so she enamored Bill’s treacly heart.
