Yeah, I subscribe to the Freudian concepts of the pleasure principle and subsumption.

But I agree -- it's an UNUSUALLY straightforward dream in my 'oeuvre'. A sequence like that rarely occurs in my dreams (where the main intrigue of getting to an assignment on time and prepared) is played all the way through. Usually, contexts and goals switch midway.

As Prospero said to Juliana, .... 'There is more. ...'

I think it's very clear that my subconscious is trying to rid itself of trauma considering my real-life ....

This is typical Freud in that it ignores the teleological, as though the dream was a mere safety valve, like a psychic fart.

What if the dream is really GUIDING you? What part of yourself and the world is this stage-director in the military tee-shirt who stops you at the top of the stairs that you call 'rough'? How do you negotiate him within yourself and outside? He seems to correspond to the 'red knight' in Arthurian myth, the bloke in every movie who blocks the path early on yet can become an ally after a 'fight'. He has discipline about him, knows the rules. He's part of you and needs assimilated to go on to your goal of a wide audience.

Freud is only a sedative, not a cure. You need a 'quest'.

Jerry Goldsmith was teaching a master class - in animation.

I had all my storyboards ready for him to look at, and I mounted them on triangular pillows.

I was at a backstage party after a John Williams concert. I got a ticket to meet him personally after the afterparty.

I was told he would give us M&M's!

As if those two guys EVER would have shared billing.... smile

No, different nights.

Let's see - Music and Maestro? Are you sure they weren't Minstrels?

My first Rozsa!

I need a car for a war mission. Miklos Rozsa donates a car to the cause. It is a white car from the 1940's, a common car of the age (like a Volkswagen) but in perfect condition.

It is in his garage, and when he uncovers it, it is strikingly narrow.

That's obviously a penis.

100 dollars please, in my account.

Show the next patient in, darling.

A dream from a couple of weeks ago:

I pick up a phone at work and I hear

"THIS IS BERNARD HERRMANN CALLING TO ASK YOU TO SUPPORT MY DEMO RECORDING, SO I CAN MAKE A FULL RE-RECORDING OF MY SCORE TO VERTIGO."

Last night:

I'm at Nancy Reagan's house, and also there is the old FSM art director guy, Joe Schlabotnick, or whatever his name was.

In comes Farmer Kendall, and he's wearing a Pinocchio costume.

Later, Nancy shows us her Hammond Organ, and I ask if she has any film music in the bench.

I forgot to add that the costume included a blue wig.

John Williams made time for me!

He's a busy, busy man, but he made time to sit and chat with me outside a fancy-pants department store in New York City. He was so nice and friendly to me.

(I wonder why I dream about JW. I'm not his biggest fan, but he was the first composer I knew about and followed.)

I dream about John Williams all the time, although to be fair -- in the last couple of years, it feels like all my dreams have been nightmares. Probably due to issues in my "awake" life. So it's been a while since I remembered any film music-related dreams.

Thanks for sharing yours, though, David! Love it.

My wife's cousin has a band and they play mostly beach music, a little rock n roll, all cover tunes of course, for local clubs, July 4th celebrations, etc.

I have a recurring dream in which it's a nice, summer Saturday and they're performing a set and their lead vocalist takes ill, they ask me to fill in for him for a song. It's always the same song - "China Grove". In the dream they want me to sing in Tom Johnston's voice, but as for the guitar licks I'm a disaster, but fake my way thru it.

My friends consider me a pretty good mimic, and they often ask me to sing like Darius Rucker, Cher, Tom Petty, Bob Dylan, etc. and they like when I make up some silly lyrics to go along for a quick laugh.
Their number one request is for me to sing like Darius (I Only Wanna be With You) but with my own lyrics:

You and me, we come from different worlds,
You like to laugh at me when I dress up like a girl.
You think I’m crazy, and you wonder why,
I’m such a baby a broken nail can make me cry.
But there’s nothing I can do,
I wanna dress in gingham blue.

Sorry for the diversion. Anyway the dream is virtually the same every time, and I'm always in a panic over being able to get the song right, lyrically and instrumentally.

You're welcome, Thor.

By the by, I took a picture in this thread just because you, Thor, asked for it, so I'm hoping you'll have a comment on it.
