I have the previous release of Magic but the harmonica stuff is a turn off. Otherwise Jerry wrote a really beautiful theme if I recall. I'll have to give mine a spin and reacquaint myself with the score. Nice release for those that missed out on it though.

The harmonica is only a turn-off because it's so unnerving, right? When it hits in the middle of the love scene, at the shot of Fats....I'm still having nightmares about that.

It's been pointed out by somebody on this board previously that the two note repeating hermonica motif represents breathing. It's a subtle musical way of getting across the idea of an inanimate object that may be alive. That had never occurred to me listening to Magic before - I hear it in a completely different way now.

Nothing for me. But that's okay. LLL can't always be on fire!

I am definitely curious if MAGIC will be any different from the VCL edition - it could probably use remastering... so I may check that one out... I am not sure if I need 5th version of The Egyptian - although I am sure it would be worth it for design and notes alone... will see... smile

Still waiting for something else, though smile
So hopefully next month... if it is still happening... frown

I think "Magic" is a great score, harmonica and all. Never had any problem with the Varèse mastering. But for people who missed out on that one, this is a terrific release.

It's a subtle musical way of getting across the idea of an inanimate object that may be alive. That had never occurred to me listening to Magic before - I hear it in a completely different way now.

I remember when I first heard the harmonica in the movie in the theater. I did hear it instantly as the breathing of Fats, thought it was brilliant if a bit on the nose. The vast majority of the harmonica chords in the score are just a static inhale/exhale. Such a great example of how Goldsmith would find a musical signature for a film that would make it immediately distinctive - I think this was one of his finest qualities as a film composer.

Magic is a great companion score to Psycho II - they play brilliantly together.

Took me a minute to figure out what this meant. Let's hope it's April...or maybe, in time for its DVD release.

Looking forward to getting The Egyptian. Missed the Varese release so I'm not going to miss this title again.

Not too sure on Magic, I've got the Varese but I can't say it's a score I've listened to a lot, in fact, I really can't recall it. Might have to give it a spin and then check out the samples on that one.

Have no knowledge of Dogs of War

One of David Arnold's ore-bond scores, frequently recommended, and hard to get

Are you thinking of Last of the Dogmen?

Yes and sorry.

I deleted the e-mail because I wasn't interested in the titles, so thank you for highlighting the sale. I'll have to dig around the site and see if there is anything left that I was on the fence about.
