My copy arrived while I was out of town and it came in pristine condition. I listened to it in full and it is amazing. Wonderful release.

Now sold out at Kritzerland. Looking at the site's titles, there's a pattern to the fast sellouts. In hindsight, it seems 'obvious' when some specific title disappears from the well of availability, yet, the truly phenomenal David And Bathsheba, for instance, is still bafflingly there.

Glad to see The Buccaneer has sold out.

The Buccaneer issued at 1,000 copies while David and Bathsheba was issued at 1,500 copies. So that is probably why Bathsheba is still available.

Bingo. Summer and Smoke was also 1500 - both would have sold out very quickly had we done 1000. That's why I always am amused when someone posts that a 1000 is way too low. Unfortunately, not anymore. Yes, a Jerry or a John will sell out at 1200 or 1500 or even more, but no one else, really.

This is another Bernstein album I recently listened to after acquiring secondhand. Similarly to LLL's The Sons of Katie Elder, I had put it off because I had an earlier release. I had a similar reaction as Schiffy's to my DRG album: "good ol' reliable Elmer" and then proceeded to hardly ever listen to it. I realize now that was because the sound quality was so poor. Bruce's release of this is like hearing the score for the first time, and it is WONDERFUL. It comes off much better C&C with improved sound quality; I had found it a disappointing DeMille follow up to The Ten Commandments, but no longer. Great to hear really rediscover another excellent Bernstein score in similar vein.

Like Basil above, I prefer the Waltz No. 2 in the bonus section since it incorporated a theme from the dramatic score, so swapped it out with Elmer's source cue in the main program. (I also moved the earlier accordion and music box source cues out of the main program, with the exception of the one accordion source cue which led into a score cue on the same track.)

I also delight in the wealth of bonus cues Bruce provided, and I only lament that they weren't provided with more documentation or details in the liner notes. The piano demos are fantastic, particularly that mysterious Nocturne, but the waltz ones seem to be original melodies unused in the score and do not correspond to the orchestral waltz cues.

This is a must-have for all Bernstein fans/Golden Age fans/pirate score fans/fans of great orchestral music in general. A night and day upgrade from all previous versions. There is no comparison!

Yavar

P.S. I echo others' sentiments in this thread that it would be great to have Kritzerland-improved (Mattesino?) restorations of Prince Valiant and Prince of Foxes! How 'bout it, Bruce? Can anything be done?
