Nice to see an expanded classic score that pays attention to how the music is presented.* Like albums used to be.
Screw the 'every cue separate " lunatics.
Brm

*GBU is another example.

Ps did FIRST CONTACT really need that twenty eight second cue right after Main Title?

I really like the flow of both the programs as they suggest a musical narrative. Even the two cues relegated out of sequence on disc 2 are OK for me. I think it was the right direction that Matessino and Williams team took for the presentation.

That is the version approved by Williams, maybe he requested or preferred it that way. It follows the original Arista album in being separate tracks.

That's fine with me though, because I can't stand the Wish Upon A Star version of the end titles, so keeping the tracks separate is okay ( although I would have liked Contact to segue into the album version of the end titles )

Thanks for the explanation.

And screw you too. I like separate cues. I like to follow the film narrative. Not everyone thinks like you.

There is already an edition of this score that will satisfy you.

Everyone seems to forget that the 1998 CD put "Trucking"(3m1) following an alternate unused version of (13m1), which is a far greater deviation from chronology and narrative intent than the two extremely minor moves on the new release. Yes there are just two, as has been pointed out. Since discrete cues are provided as well, everyone is free to do what they'd like.

Still loving this set. The presentations of both discs creates a wonderful listening experience (personally I prefer listening experience over strict chronological). Can't count the number of times I've played this since receiving it.
Stunning

Can't wait to see what JW score gets this royal treatment next.
I am of course hoping that the Indiana Jones and Star Wars films can get the treatment they deserve at some point in the next few years.

Has anyone else who ordered this through SAE (or some other vendor) gotten a shipping notice yet?

I brought this up in the "Oh My" thread. Apparently they're just starting to ship stock out to third party vendors. Understandable, considering recent events at LLL.

Solium, what are the recent events at LLL, other than the massive list of CDs they've been releasing?

Mike, forgive me if this was mentioned previously in this thread (I couldn't find it), but was it John's decision not to include the entire LP presentation or was it a decision of space? Also, can one recreate the album presentation exactly, using these tracks? So looking forward to the expanded score but I also have a soft-spot for the original program.

I LOVE the new presentation. So much that I'd buy a double LP version of Disc 1 as well. MV previously mentioned a double LP of E.T. is forthcoming this Spring. Fingers crossed for Close Encounters as well!

I haven't tried it yet, but I believe the answer is yes.

I love this expanded edition (purchased it instantly which is rare for me nowadays) but I do wish it came with the OST remastered. So I would be interested in the same as well.

As a HUGE fan of this soundtrack who only just now found out about this (and ordered it), I figured I've found the right place to put forth a question I've always had in my head. And that is; I always wondered where in the film the cue known as 'Trucking' was supposed to go. perhaps it was a deleted scene.

I've had fun re-inserting deleted cues in their proper place in the film to see what they would've been like with the music. Always fun! For instance...

phew! It is not easy being a latecomer having had to read/scan so many entries on a thread this size but "completist" that I am it had to be done. Anyway, I'm kinda surprised at all the discussion about the "Inside" cue. This was all hashed over in a previous thread (gimme time, I'll find it wink). And in a sense, this new release brings things full-circle for us [vitual] charter Messageboard members. Still have fond memories of contributing to my first Friday Letters letter about the original CD release vis-a-vis waxing crazy about standing in line outside the Ziegfeld Theatre in the bitter cold for three hours. But like Martin Sloan says, it was worth it. Just for the last half hour alone much less the entire picture. And as it must be for this newest soundtrack release. Even I may have to buy it and it will be just to FINALLY get the original Inside music as heard in Film II.

Great work on restoring "Roy's First Encounter"! Fyi, "Trucking" was supposed to start when the UFO rises up behind Neary's truck

Does anybody know how to recreate the original LP program?

I don't think it's possible in retrospect. There's a lot of cross-fading of out of film order cues on the OST. Thus it would be impossible to create the same exact same program unless your really good at editing music. This one would take quite a bit of work I think.

Whoah, holy crap, serious? That bombastic music was written for Neary's encounter in the truck? Shew, am I glad they left that off. Though now Im curious to slap it on there and see what it would've been like!

Inasmuch as I love Williams' music, I think they did a fantastic job of leaving music out of key early scenes. It makes the whole thing more creepy.

I agree. Though I'm also curious to see how 'Trucking' lines up with the corresponding scene
