Is the cd a reissue then?

If you mean the 'Sleeping Astronauts' CD, I think you're getting a bit confused. The vinyl EP was a very early attempt at releasing some Anderson related music and was probably sourced from Barry Gray's own tapes. I can't remember what the other tracks were now (apart from the main theme from UFO) but it was a very short vinyl sampler and has no real connnection to anything that Fanderson did with CD's later on (much later on, actually...)

So we're back to my original point. In 2004 sleeping astronauts cd was released. Track 15 has sleeping astronauts used in Doppelganger and perhaps ufo. It had nothing to with something slipping through on vinyl. One explanation was used by ufo also and not exclusive to movie. Another is it was lp transferred to cd in which case slip?. Remember never sold to members.gifted.

Does it really matter that much?

It's quite a nice score anyway - very melodic and less brass-orientated than some of the other cues. I'm not overly convinced that there is a similarity to Bob James other than a very general 'fusion' sound, but I'm glad you like Bob James' early albums, coz so do I smile

Years ago I wasn't that struck by the jazz-dance bits (I still think the dance routine between Bain and Leigh Lawson looks rather silly in the episode...), especially the cue based round the Gino Vanelli song. But these days I rather like them.

What do you think of the mono cues, Thomas?

I have a mixed feeling about them because it up to the devises I used to play them:
home hi-fi, laptop, car player.
They seem different from the stereo cues in the orchestration.
Driving in the countryside during hours, I am currently dissecting them on my car player.
It's incredible how "The Strongest Passion" track has that Bob James' leaning.

¶ The mono mix has a different orchestration.

¶ In short, these are the same scores "but" with two separate arrangements.

¶ It's a bit like buying a score with the album version and the original recording if you catch the analogy.

why would someone do a different orchestration unless for a soundtrack album like John Williams did for JAWS ? it must be the first time that a mono is different from a stereo !

It's not really that the orchestration itself is different on the mono tracks. The stereo mixes just sound different because they emphasise different instruments etc (eg synth further forward in the mix, or perhaps slightly less emphasised, etc), while the mono tracks are...well, 'mono'. The mono tracks will inevitably sound different.

Penta Music has announced that it will be releasing a Space:1999 soundtrack CD – scored by Ennio Morricone!

The CD features the music created for the Italian theatrical release that premiered on 14th January 1975, and consists of three episodes edited together into a feature length format: Breakaway, Ring Around The Moon, and Another Time, Another Place.

The theatrical release of Space:1999 (or Spazio 1999) pre-dated the series’s debut on Italian television by a year, with the first six episodes being broadcast from 31st January 1976. A further six episodes followed in July 1976, and the remaining twelve episodes during the autumn of the same year.

The series’s original iconic score was removed from the Italian theatrical version and replaced with a fascinating score by Morricone, who composed original material featuring frantic jazz themes and futuristic electronic sequences, reminiscent of Barry Gray’s work on UFO.

The release also includes avant-garde library material by Morricone selected from the RCA promotional series of vinyl LPs, Dimensioni Sonore, performed by symphonic orchestra, all in full stereo. Also included is the final large orchestral theme heard over the end credits, featuring vocals from Edda Dell’Orso and I Cantori Moderni di Alessandroni. This was re-used for the 1979 mini-series Orient Express, again scored by Ennio Morricone.

The 70-minute CD comes with a full-colour 20-page booklet containing:

archive stills
a foreword from Fanderson chairman Nick Williams
plot information and credits for the three episodes.
This will be the perfect companion to Fanderson’s own Space:1999 CDs, and explores another side of this hugely popular Anderson series.

We expect details of the release date and how to order to be available soon.

Very good news, indeed! I'm going to follow that release carefully.
Thanks.

I don't know where you are located, but when I order the CDs, they can take several weeks to arrive. Have you tried the Fanderson forum?

the problem is that they did not tell me that the cds were even shipped, and that after several questions by email (3 different adress) i have no answer !

AFAIK, they don't send out shipping confirmations. I never got any for my Fanderson orders. The CDs typically take 3 or so weeks to reach Canada (and the US as well, I imagine).

They're a small outfit, and the people who deal with memberships are separate from those who deal with orders from the webshop. When I joined I also ordered CDs at the same time, and even though I paid for it all together, the people who handled my membership had to forward the CD order to those who ship them out and couldn't tell me anything about the order beyond that.

Oh that is a recipe for trouble if anything.

No it isn't. It's called spreading the workload around other people who also aren't paid for doing it. I'd imagine very few orders are 'lost' and most are fulfilled quickly. Mine always have been, and I've been a member for far longer than probably most people on here (and certainly long before they started producing soundtracks for members).

For some reason the soundtrack fraternity seem to think they should be dealt with differently or more swiftly ie, the usual sense of 'entitlement' that some people in the hobby seem to have.

Remember, they are not a soundtrack label or dealer.

I never had any problems with my orders. I think the issue is with the US customers only.

They should give us a little more consideration !

I sympathise, but see my above answer.

Presumably you have noted that they say to allow 'at least' 28 days for delivery?

Lastly have you emailed the sales officer direct: sales@fanderson.org.uk
