The Cure- Faith

Nice pick, Phelps. As a kid I spent many a summer visiting extended family up in Washington state, and during one of our road trips--I was 14 at the time--we visited the the town of Roslyn (which would serve as the setting for the TV show Northern Exposure). Upon entering the town's centuries-old cemetery, I decided to document the experience by securing the headphones of my Sony Walkman cassette player to the microphone of my hand-held camcorder and videotaping my journey through the forest of weather-beaten, moss-covered grave stones, many of which were quite ornate and still adorned with the age-crippled neo-Goth ornaments of yesteryear. I don't need to tell you what was playing in that cassette player. Not long after, my parents decided that my taste in music was significantly reducing my chances at everlasting life in the kingdom of heaven, so they trashed all of my home videos along with my entire music collection. smile

This is the kind of stuff I love reading in threads like these. Instead of just posting an image of the cover of the album being played, you provided an interesting *personal* anecdote relating to the album. I've done this here over the years in other topics but always wondered if I came across as a rambling loon. smile I hope others would share there memories of the albums they're listening to if there is a recording that warrants it.

Thanks for the excellent post, Josh. We don't interact much here but I think in person we'd get along famously.

I think he's very much conscious about not playing a-ha songs in his solo shows -- almost like he wants to distanciate himself from that part of his career. Especially now that a-ha is no more.

a-ha are back for more, Thor and Jon!! At least for a one-off gig at the 'Rock In Rio' festival next year to celebrate 30 years. Makes me feel old...

My brother and I used to enjoy this in the orphanage after our parents were convicted of armed robbery for that Tulsa bank job. We'd listen on headphones to block out the cries of the other kids during "correction hour". Good times! smile

I don't care if the above post is solemn truth or a total bullshit lie, it's hilarious. If it's true, then I envy your inner pain. If not, then I'll assume you were just blasting shitty Horner scores in teenaged acts of rebellion because that's "how you rolled."

Meanwhile...

The Smiths- Louder Than Bombs

I had this in the '80s but rarely listened to it after stumbling upon the then-hard-to-find import of The World Won't Listen at my local indie record store. I felt like you people who still get excited about Mr. Spock and Aeon Flux (which I had to look up because I'd forgotten her name) when I found that CD. The same store also had a bunch of Joy Division stuff. I met another fan there who liked JD but I internally labeled him a yuppie sell-out because he had a credit card at our age (17) so he couldn't possibly be deep enough--like me--to understand JD's music.

Probably my favourite Christmas CD. I've played it regularly every Christmas since I bought it when released, back in 1998 I think...
